Was on my computer earlier and everything was hunky dory, but came to turn it on about an hour ago and nothing! no power whatsoever:mad: i tried my lads PSU and works a treat so my poor old BFG800W is dead :( its just really bizarre on why it has just died all of a sudden! anyone got any ideas on this?

my system is

BFG680i mobo
6gig mem
X-FI soundcard
E6600
295gtx
and a few hard drives in there too.

can anyone recommend what psu to but for that system? don't want to spend to much on one as i am unemployed at the moment.

Sometimes they just go pop, although make sure it isn't the fuse that has gone in the cable.

Corsair TX750W V2 is a good buy if you are on a budget and don't want modular or the XFX 850W, both have long warranties.

i tried to different kettle leads and still the same outcome so its deffo not the lead. will those two psu's supply the correct juice need for my 295gtx? plus there was no popping noise whatsoever!! just would not turn on from when i had it on last time, just really strange how it just dont work now.

Yeah either of those two will do fine, I'd get the Corsair, although you can get the TX750W V2 for a few quid more if you shop around, will give you little more room if you decide to SLi etc.

Indeed.

If you purchased it less than a year ago you can go through the retailer, but thats about all the cover you have.

My advice would be to quote the sale of goods act to the retailer and see if you get anywhere, worth a shot even if over a year old as you've nothing to lose.

Yeah no chance then, only good news really is there is a wider selection of good value units these days. From a warranty point of view I would deinately recommend Corsair over XFX even if you are paying a bit more, XFX don't have the best rep when it comes to returns.

Would this be any good for the setup i have OCZ StealthXStream 2 700W Power Supply cant really spend too much as im unemployed at the moment and coulda have done without my psu giving up on me

or this one Coolermaster GX 750W PSU - 6x SATA 2x PCI-E

Sorry to hear about your employment difficulties :(

I assume you've tried changing the fuse or using a different kettle lead?

The OCZ StealthXStream 2 700W is probably the cheapest you can get away with that is sufficient for your spec.

Reviews of the GTX 295 recommend a 700W PSU.

The OCZ has a 6 pin and an 8 pin connection for the GPU which I believe is what is required for a GTX 295.

Indeed get the OCZ if on a really tight budget, one review had GTX295 SLi on the 600w unit without issue. Although that's not something I'd recommend as it would be running near it's limit.

I am however from the buy right buy once camp. Even on a budget I wouldn't skimp on the PSU. So my recommendation is still the Corsair TX650/750w if you can stretch, one less meal out or trip to the pub is usually the way to do it! ;)
