bfg 8600

not really their potential is limited by the 128-bit memory interface they use

good for watching video and light gaming if nothing else, better to go for a full blown DX10 card IMHO.

i have a budget of 450 for my uncle

e6350
2 gig ddr2
vista 64
asrock 4 core vsta
cheapass case
dvd rw

would i be beter off going for a 7900 gt? but hes not a hardcore gamer and only has a 19inch screen and the motherboard is only pci-e 4 x

7900 GT's have a very high failure rate, all buggered hence why they got replaced by the 7950's, the x1950pro is much better than both those cards (7900 GT/8600) if your not going for the 8800GTS, the GTS would be pretty limited in a 4x slot to id have thought.

If you cant stretch to the 8800 GTS then the x1950pro is the way to go at only £93, a paltry £3 over budget. :)

Agreed, cracking card for the price.

EDIT : < Post count (1337) ;)

mate has a 8600gt and his 3dm scores are very slightly behind mine once overclocked.

8600gt damn good card to get, people will tell you its crippled by its memory bandwidth etc but don;t believe it. for a £65 card you really will be shocked to see how it runs games.

my mate got a opteron 146 @ 2.94ghz and with stock speeds of the 8600gt he scored 9449 in 3dm05. thats just too damn good for a card of that price with such low power consumption and low heat output.

Then the 8600, or wait a couple of weeks and see what ATi's 2600 range are like, i wouldn't hold out much hope of em cutting through Dx10 titles like Crysis though.
