Fellas,

I currently have a BFG 8800 GT 0C2, which is causing a bit of grief. Every game Crysis, C0D4, (DX9 & DX10) I load up, seems to crash out to a black screen, and disconnects the monitor. I have under clocked the card, and the temps are well below the average as I have fitted a 3rd party cooler. I have tried taking RAM my rig out, different configurations, plugging out hdd. PSU is 500w Seasonic, but the problem persists.

I have tried an old 7800 GT and it works flawlessly, but obvious v low FPS lol, and also a varity of drivers have been installed to iron out that issue. I really dont want to RMA the card, but id rather purchase a 600+ watt PSU if this is the case. I have also heard that some cards have the wrong BIOS versions, as mine says sub vendor Nvidia, not BFG. This normal??

So it is the 8800 GT, this proves it.

Anyone else had any similar problems with this card... :( Driving me nuts

Did you install the drivers properly? (or cleaned away the old ones properly?)

Did you damage the card in anyway when you modded it?

How old is your 500w PSU?

Can you try the card in another machine 'or' a different PSU in your machine?

If the machine is overclocked have you tried everthing at stock?

Hi Wayne,

Did you install the drivers properly? (or cleaned away the old ones properly?)

Yes, I have formated a number of times, and installed most versions of 8800 drivers.

Did you damage the card in anyway when you modded it?

Well I hope not, as I did everything by the book, but when the stock fan was on I had issues also, crashing to desktop.

How old is your 500w PSU?

It was purchased in 2005-6

Can you try the card in another machine 'or' a different PSU in your machine?

I have a spare 650w which I can try, or I will have to build another rig to try the card in.

If the machine is overclocked have you tried everthing at stock?

Yes everything is at stock atm

A little O.T but I recommend you look into Norton Ghost or Acronis for system backups, really its quick and easy to use and allows to you have a fresh windows install in 5-10 mins.

Pretty sure its knackered, PSU tester on it or try another PSU.

It does sound like classic symptoms of an underpowered PSU, but that PSU's very good and should easily be good enough even if it's a couple of years old.

Even so, seeing as you have a spare one it'd be worth swapping them out, even just to eliminate the PSU from the investigation!

I've never had a PSU last much more than 2 years but maybe thats because my puters are left running 24/7. Perhaps if your a start-up/shut-down merchant the PSU may last longer?

None of my PSU's have gone *Boom* but all slowly die and the first I know about it is I start to get strange symptoms during computer use. I bought a decent PSU tester about a year ago and thats been worth its weight in gold. After a few weird crashes a few months ago (around the time I installed a Radeon HD2900XT) I tested the PSU and found that the +5v Rail was shot (ANTEC TruePower Trio 550w), that PSU was about 18 months old.

If its not the PSU in this example then perhaps the card is borked in some way or since the modding?

The easiest trouble-shooting steps would be test the PSU or try the card in another machine, that should provide a much better ideal of what the problem is?

Here is a pic I have taken, with a PSU tester. As you can see the -5 rail is not emmiting any LED at all?? This normal, I have been told it is only used for serial connectors?

i think you may possibly be yet another victim of BFG GT issues :( and i blame the poor memory being used with the OC+
