*** BFG 8800 GTS Overclocking ***

Yeah this is true. i remember my 6800 Ultra was the same, it had pads to fill the gap and provide a little bit of heat transfer. I must say, the only thing holding me back from doing mine is this gap between the mem and the HS. I just noticed at 610 / 930 i'm running at a 69 degrees idle and max load of 81 degrees. Seems a bit hot to me so i'd like to do something about it.
 
Thats odd, just ran 3d mark06 and watched temps. Never got above 76 degrees. I'm wondering if i should try putting the AS5 on and try leaving the memory as is.

Mine hit 91c the other day while i was testing! It locked up shortly after so i clocked it back again as i dont want it to go boom just yet.
 
bfg 8800gts 640 stock cooling clocked @ 620/980 using rivatuner. 3dmark 06 8990, temps,54c. os, win xp 32

Something terribly wrong there. I'm getting nearly 11k in 06
 
Is the BFG card the one to go for if you want to overclock or are other brands just as good for overclocking? The cheapest 8800 GTS 320mb I can get is a Gigabyte but the BFG OC 320mb is only £ 10 more. Is the BFG likely to overclock higher? What are the overclocking results like for other brands?
 
As far as i know they are all reference cards just branded differently. You pay more for the factory OC and also the warranties/t-shirts/free games etc. Go for one with the best warranty such as the BFG. Although by overclocking it you will void said warrenty but then how can they prove it? ;)

was thinking that seemed a bit on the low side to, card is overclocked but the cpu is at stock
 
turned of aa/af in the nvcp, ran 3dm06 again and scored 9910 so its a bit better
when i can afford a decent cpu cooler ill overclock my cpu and see how i go.
