i just got a second hand bfg 8800gt today which i bought off MM, the chap i got it from said this in his post.

The card is in perfect working order and has an Accelero S1 Rev2 installed. It has been seated using MX-2 and never goes above 45C passive (will depend on your case cooling of course).

now i installed it and with it as standard i run fur benchmark and the temps went over 90C so i stopped the benchmark .

what is causing my temps to go so high when the previous owner was getting low temps

I have a lian li A05 case which seems pretty cool , even with the side panel off its just as hot. is there something in my bios settings that could cause this ?

I have recently got a new GeForce 9800 GTX+ BFG Tech OC that I only used for 5 days before it totally blew on me so I'll be sending it back for a full refund but, just before I did that while I was researching as to why it was constantlly Crashing I came across an interesting program that meant you could control the speed for you G-Card fan and put it up to 100% all of the time as my card, when it was built the Manufacture forgot to add the Fan control software so it only ever ran at 10% speed no matter what. By the way stay away from BFG Tech, they have too many problems, the Program is called Riva(something) cant tell you exactlly what because it's on my main computer which I cant power up becasue of course my Graphics Care has blown. >:-( It's no the more user frendly saoftware but mess about with it enough and eventually you'll find the Fan control part, whack it up to 100% all the time and it will prob cool it down a lot.

im using rivatuner to get my temps, i know you can set profiles for the fan but its just a big passive heatsink thats on this card there are no fans to control so im wondering why the previous owner had it running a lot cooler than i am getting it.

i run 3dmark06 and it ran that fine but was mid 80's temp wise

It would probably perform better with the side panel on as to run a s1 passive you need concentrated airflow.

To get it at 45C load would think that you need a lot of fans and some great airflow management in the case. Normally to get those temps its an s1 with a 120mm fan strapped on to it.

Ok...don't forget furmark will take the card to temps it would possibly never go when you game.

Did the person you bought it from specifically say at 45c that's what he gets on furmark.

Try a game and see what temp you get then.

Okay it might be over 45c but imo would be less than over 90c that you were getting on furmark. Try it and see what you get m8.

thanks for the replies guys, i have some artic cooling 80mm fans i could strap on and see how that goes, the flow around my gfx card is non existant, the airflow thru the A05 comes in the bottom back past the cpu cooler and out the bottom front so its not getting flow up to the card.

this is a pic before i fitted the scythe mini ninja cpu cooler and its the old gfx card

i strapped 2 x 80mm fans to the heatsink with zip ties and noy temps under fur benchmark are 58C so i really need to get some quiet cool air on this thing. :D

2x 90mm fans seem the best for that cooler.

On my 4870 in York I get around 53 max load and about 40-45 idle, in Manchester it's around 50 idle and about 60-65 load.
