BFG 8800GT OC

I RMAd my first BFG 8800GT OC, as it had the wrong BIOS in it, and wasn't running at OC speeds... and in the subvendor category in GPU-Z, it was listed as NVIDIA and not BFG Tech, like the other BFG cards do.

Got this 2nd one from OCUK a few weeks ago.
Runs mostly fine.
Had a few Green Corruption problems on Crysis, and one other game once or twice... a reboot fixed it.

This one won't clock for carp either.
The clock and shaders are OK, but can't get memory above about, well I set it to 930. 950 works in some games, but others I get more green corruption and I have to hard reset the system. Clock and Shader happy at 675/1691, completed Crysis with those settings, but ram only at 1860Mhz!
(well ventilated case too, Thermaltake Armor)

Still, despite that, everything (bar Crysis of course) runs like a dream, so it will do until GeForce 9.

V1N.

EDIT: I'm sure I could get the ram above 1860Mhz, as I said, I dropped from 950 to 930, as 950 was causing trouble in Crysis (3Dmark and Lost Coast Stress test were OK though, even the infamous Freeze scene) but I just chucked it down to 930, and it worked perfectly stable, so left it there. Am considering one of those Accelero passive coolers.. maybe that would help.

my BFG has arrived back for an RMA today due to the memory not running at the specified OC2 settings without locking up and artifacting after 10 mins in GoW ect and it 100% isnt a heat issue

I so wish i had waited for the GTS 512 but it had been a months wait for my GT and i was so bored without it and just my bad luck it was faulty

tbh i think nvidia should maybe have skipped the GT and just release the 512 GTS but called it something else like GTSX or something unique

Got the EVGA 8800 GT Superclocked Crysis Edition and it has the same problem as the OP.

Got it last week, installed it and played Crysis for about an hour and noticed the fan getting really loud.

Shutdown the system went to bed and when I tried to power on the system the next day no signal warning on monitor and fan whining.

So it appears to me that this a problem is not specific to any one manufacturer.
Does stink a bit considering that there are shortages of the parts, hope they ain't rushing them through quality?

Mine is RMA'd and will post it off today special delivery and get the new 8800 GTS when they are on Overclockers.;)

What was the lead time for you woozy, between the card leaving you and recieving the new one ?

i sent it yesterday mate, and it arrived today at OcUK

just waiting on OcUK now. I asked on a webnote if i could change it for the GTS 512 and pay the difference as they have the GTS 512mb in stock but no decent GT's in stock. but they said no for some reason:(

Can you not get your money back for the goods that didn't work as specified?

I've stated I want a full refund for mine.

Then get the GTS.

Ah right, mine isn't going to OCUK unfortunately, i'm shipping mine to BFG tech in wales. Hopefully they'll have better access to stock than OCuK, but nothing surprises me about the GT now :(

you can rma within 28 days of purchase

i called BFG tech when i discovered the problem and found them to be unhelpful unlike OcUK

Yeh i'm aware of that bud, however i purchased my card on the release day, i believe the 29th October, and for that reason, have to go to BFG

just to add which i didnt earlier the bios version sticker was also crossed out with a black marker on the BFG i had :/

Bought Zotac 8800gt when first came out - no problem as yet.
Remember early correspondence refering to 1st cards being made by one company with later (& larger) batches being made by a n other (Foxcon?)
Is it newer cards that problems are more likely to arise with ? Rushing to meet demand?
Probably should not have written this - just condemned my Zotac to an early death maybe:eek:

i heard Zotac use better quality ram and of course the larger design fan from day one on the amp could be why they are so popular

Seems dodgy that in my opinion, like they've done something somewhere that we aren't supposed to know.

I've just been packaging my 8800GT, and i swear the BFG logo couldn't be more applicable to the problems it's causing.

I bet that logo is to represent every RMA victims reaction as their card slips away.

haha the head in hands

i felt the same way when i was frauded on ebay when i lost my BFG 8800 640 OC2 GTS and its sale worth :(

been one headache after another for me

How much did you get forthe 640?

nothing

the buyer had their account hacked, paypal saw it in their favour the idiots

and i lost the BFG to some low life in romania and i also lost the final amount i sold it for £266 as paypal took the money from me to refund the proper account holder of the buyer

so i lost the card and the money

That is the worst ebay incident i have EVER heard. that is so unbelievably unlucky.

Sorry to hear that, then to top it off you got mugged with the GT :@@@@@

So this fella got £266 and a GFX card ?
