Hi everyone.

Originally, my plan was to buy a Zotac 8800GT AMP 512MB card to replace my old GTS. I was tempted by the overclocked core and memory speeds the card shipped with. However, I was also impatient and decided to get the BFG 8800GT OC2 512MB card instead!

After a few hours stress-testing, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I am able to run the BFG card at Zotac speeds. So far…

3DMark06 reports the following:

Stock OC2 Settings:
(675 / 1950)

12123

Zotac AMP Settings:
(700 / 2000)

12367

Not that much of a difference, I know, but at least I ended up with the performance I originally wanted, although I doubt I will notice this small increase while playing a game. I would post some Crysis FPS comparisons but I have to wait until Christmas day for that  :D

Although it has already been said many times, this really is a top-notch card for the price. It is noticeably faster than my old 8800 GTS 640MB card. Every game I throw at it runs flawlessly at 1600x1200. Not tried any AA modes yet. Something I shall go do right now!

I could have saved a tenner then if I went with the OC version. Should have checked to see if they were good overclockers before going for the OC2. Ah well :)

Lesson learned.

I would still be interested to see results from a similar system running the Zotac AMP and compare them to the BFG running at the same speeds.

Theres a GT Overclocking thread in here somewhere, have a look. I belive some people have got over 800 and 2200 using water.

And memory seems to be the hardest to overclock stably.

My BFG is now running at 750 core but I have had to turn the shaders down a bit.

I did overclock the memory to 950 originally (anything over that and it crashed straight away) but after playing tiger woods 08, the screen froze with typical graphics memory corruption (although fine in crysis and 3dmark06) and I have had to turn my memory back down to stock speeds again. :(

Mine can run '06 @ 735/1841/1000 and I'm sure I've got a fair bit of headroom left :D
