Hello,

I bought the BFG 8800GT just under a month ago from OC though already having problems with it.

The odd time when I turn on the PC, it will start up, the card sounds like it's running in 'overdrive' with a noisy fan, and no display ever appears on the monitor. Usually a reset will solve the problem.

During a normal start-up, the noisy fan will usually last a few seconds then quiet down, and the display appears as normal and the card runs quietly in the background, can't say I notice the fan at all.

However, this morning I turned on the PC to find the noisy fan ran continuiously, and no display ever appeared. No number of resets solved it, I removed the card and reinserted it, checked the power and connectors etc, but still nothing. I finally left it running in 'overdrive't his afternoon for 20 minutes and then reset it, and now it's working again. Card runs fine when it is working.

Any ideas?

No overclocking at all, and other specs:
Asus A8N-E mobo,
Amd 64 3700,
600W Antec PSU (no problems with this before)

Thanks

Id RMA it as thats a common problem with the BFG 8800 GT's, they were dropping like flies upon release doing that, im actually surprised theres still some out there that are still doing it now tbh, as i thought BFG replaced them all.

Welcome to the forums as well btw. :)

Cheers for the reply. I'll look into returning it.

Thanks for the welcome, been lurking for a few years but been so long I couldn't find my old login. :(

Well, I have the BFG 8800GT OC, and it's been ace for 3 weeks now, clocked up lovely, temps are good... and I'm picking another one up in 3 weeks time for SLi... I love this card... :D

Cheers

Read Loadsa's post. Most of them got replaced. Just because you have a BFG 8800GT and it's working fine doesn't mean that Loadsa is incorrect. I'm only mentioning this because I don't understand your point by telling the OP about your BFG card when Loadsa has pointed out an issue with the BFG 8800GT earlier revision?.

Been exchanging e-mails with BFG Support the past two days trying to set up RMA. They won't accept my serial number on the card, claiming it should begin 06 or G however mine is S08..?

Box has a sticker with S/N 08... Card has sticker with 08... Warranty Void if Removed. Can't find any numbers beginning 06 or G anywhere on card or box.

Thought I would add that I have also had this problem with the BFG 8800GT bought from here a month back - when the deals were first advertised.

The symptoms were exactly as described as the original poster. Annoyingly even before all this I had issues with the fan setting. The card would overheat after 10 mins of gameplay, shutting down the pc. Had to use RivaTuner to fix the fan settings. Few days later my system does not boot with the card anymore.

BFG have given me a RMA number and I must say their responses so far were prompt and timely. Its on its way to Whales today. Hopeing their turnaround is not to long.

With serial numbers, I had trouble finding them as well. There is a couple of stickers on the card itself - one of them worked for me.

cotton_flex,

Thanks for the reply, comforting to know someone else has the same problem.

Still awaiting a reply from BFG Support after I re-sent the e-mail and told them the other number I could find was the S08..one. Fingers crossed. There are a couple of other numbers on the card on stickers but none of them have any explanation. How many digits should the S/N be?

I assumed a sticker with a white barcode and number on the side box with the letters S/N would have been Serial Number but they don't think so. :(

I had read his post, completly... and I didn't say he was incorrect, I was simply sayiong mine's okay and it's a great card when it's working... What's your problem? I was responding saying mines fine as we bought them about the same time, obviously I may STILL have a problem in the future if mine is a faulty one as well.

Get off your soapbox. If you have no poiont, don't cause problems.

hey mate, and welcome to the forums :)

i heard tell of there being an issue finding the SN of the BFG cards, maybe try giving them ALL the numbers on the box/card, with pics attatched...

Anyways, i think you're doing the right thing by calling for an RMA.

If I had no point then I wouldn't have written anything .

Nobody asked how good the card was. The 8800GT wasn't in question. It was to do with the earlier revision of the 8800GT from BFG.

Also if you both have different revisions then your information could be misleading to others reading. If you knew it was the earlier revision then fair enough but do you even know what revision your 8800GT is?.

I'm only interested in anyone else reading this looking for a solution to their problem with their GT. Just so they know that it could be a faulty card if it's an earlier BFG 8800GT. That's all.

Finally got an RMA number after sending them every number I found on the card, one of them must have been right.

Just checked shipping with UPS from here in N.I to Wales, £40 eek. Anyone any suggestions who to use, UPS, Fedex, CityLink?

Try Royal Mail, they class NI & UK as the same for prices for shipping :)

Sorry for digging up my old thread but thought I'd keep it updated incase anyone has comes across the same problem again.

I got the RMA number from BFG after sending them every number I could find on the card after the initial problems with a valid serial. It took me a while before I managed to post it off to them. Only £6.40 with Royal Mail, insured and tracked.

Posted Friday 6th June, delivered Monday 9th and they shipped me a replacement on Thursday 12th by Fedex arriving Friday 13th (*ducks*)

Haven't had a chance to test it yet, though fairly speedy service in turning it around. Only problem was with the RMA tracking on the website, it never updated for me. 4 days after delivery (yesterday) I e-mailed them asking if they had received it, 10 minutes later a reply came saying it had been posted on 12th and should be with me shortly. Eeerily, shortly after that a knock on the door came and it was delivered.

Fingers crossed
