BFG 8800GTS 320M overclocking problems

Hi Folks,

My new 8800 is driving me crazy. I can overclock the core up to 620 which I think is not very good but the main problem is I can not overclock the memory at all. When I set up the memory clocks higher and run the test is ok even at 2500DDR because the clocks are not really changing. I tried with Rivaturner, Ati tool, Power strip and all of them allow to move the slider and run the test but the clocks still always at 1.58 GHz. I also install the ntune utillity and it doesn't allow me to change from factory clocks to custom clocks setting  I tried to install and remove the driver (97.92) and the utilities several times, I also tried Ngo optimized drivers which are base in 97.92 and still with the same problem.

I don't know what else to try but wathever I do the clocks are always 1.58 for the memory. I have been overclocking GFX for years without any problems .

what can I do about it? maybe a faulty card? Only option I have left is reinstalling windows XP or try older drivers but I doubt is going to change the situation.

BTW 3DMark06 reads wrong values for the card and says in details VGA memory clock 324 Mhz and core clock 108 Mhz

Bios version is 60.80.0D.00.04

My system:
Asrock Dual Sata, opteron 170, Tt 700W toughpower, 2GB ram etc.

Don't know what could be the problem, I assume you apply the overclocked speed after testing?

Maybe the company has locked the memoryspeed somehow?

I am aware is a very wierd problem. I just tried in my new installation of XP 64 (I have dual boot with W XP 32 and W XP 64) and the same problem: core overclocks ok but memory still fix at 1592

and about BFG locking the memory would be the first and only one in the world!!!

could anybody post their bios version for the BFG OC 8800 320M ??? I migh have a unique bios with the memory locked?

I told BFG about it and got the following dissapointing answer:

We cannot help you with this as overclocking the card further voids the warranty

Thank you,

BTW how can I insert a picture in the thread?

I looks there are not many people willing to help here :o

At least I got a work around: changing the clock via bios :D

The problem with this is to find the maximum safe overclock. I am now at 864 testing artifacts, will try soon 900 to see what happens

I might try another bios from other make to see if I can overclock in windows as everybody is doing

memory isnt locked, try using a different overclocking tool and different drivers.
Oh, and 620core is good.

Hi, I have the Asrock dual sata 2 also, and just installed the BFG 8800 GTS oc.

My bios is 60.80.0D.00.03 and I can change the core and memory using both Rivatuner 2 and the ATI tool. I only fitted it a few days ago, so have only taken it up to 600/900 and it works fine. I will wait for the chips to bed in with the heatsink, then try a bit higher.

I have a AMD dual core 4400 clocked at 2400 and 2 gig of OCZgold running at 440, but can only get 8011 with 3Dmark06. When I overclocked as above, it only rose to 8300, so I think my cpu is holding it back.

I would be interested in knowing what score do you get? looking on the forums, 9000 seems the norm, so wondered if the the dual sata 2 is not the best M/B for running an 8800.

Oh yes, 3Dmark also tells me my clocks are 108/324, even when I had changed them.

It looks my bios is newer. Everything default with gfx and drivers I get 8586 points with quality settings. My dual opteron is running at 270x10 and memory at 270. At 621/1800 I get 9006 with quality settings, not a big increase from stock clocks.

To overclock the memory I had to do it via vga bios as not overclocking utility enable me to change the memory clocks  and is now running at 1800 stable (haven't try pushing the memory further)

I remember reading that the performance of the AsRock was very good using PCIe
