So what's better, a £299 BFG 8800GTS or a £270 Radeon X1950XT-X?
I know the 8800's are more recent, but can't find benchmarks comparing the two.

depends what res/ game your playing for example: at very high res in FEAR, 1950-XT-X wins, and at 1600x1200 there is just 3 frames in it to the advantage of the GTS

GTS is over 2000 points more in 3D mark 06
But does that *really* matter?

dx10 for £29 more and a few fps either way has to be worth it.
There is the Connect3D ATI Radeon X1950 XT-X SILENT Heatpipe 512MB GDDR4 for £252.61 (non-master mind) So you don't have to pay £270 for a X1950-XT-X@512 MB

Crap comparison graphs from firing squad there only running them with 4xaa, i run all games now with a minimum of 8x and 99% of the time 16x you can't do that on a x1950xtx(they only do 6) and would kill the fps.
Put it like this i have bf2142 running in 16aa, 16xaf @ 1600x1200 and it runs it better than my x1900xt(oc) did @ the same rez with only 4x aa and that offen dipped into real jerky framerates.
When i run 3dmark 2006 with card @ same level as bf2142(no aa/af though) it gives me a score of 10590 which is just off a stock gtx there is no way on this earth a x1950xtx could run those speeds you would need crossfire, do not underestimate the power of the gts its a cracking card, i sold my x1900xt(512) and it cost me £146 more for this card and this was before the price drop.
You couldn't put another x1900xt in for the price this upgrade cost also i would have needed a new mobo to do this and a small nuclear power station to run it.
No point buying a x1950xtx now its old tech and with the prices so close either wait for ati's new offering and see what that comes out at but i doubt you would get it for the price of the bfg oc's selling now.
