BFG GTX 285 OC2 RMA problem

Hi,

Though it might be the best way to create a new topic and not rush into someone else's topic with my problem..

Well, I bought a week ago two pcs BFG GTX 285 OC2 cards. It appears that the other card is DOA, the other card is just fine. The faulty one usually don't even pass a single loop of 3DMark06.

I asked OcUK what to do - they said they can't guarantee that I get another BFG GTX 285 OC2 card back even if it was DOA.

Well this sucks, I bought the BFG OC2 cards to match in SLI even with the clocks. I've played with SLI a lot in the past and experienced several problems with it. Matching cards (BIOS/clocks) have always worked the best.

I also asked OcUK if it would be possible for them to send my BFG card to BFG for replacement and after they get it back they send it to me. This was neither possible.

Now the OC2 version isn't even listed anymore in OcUK.

I contacted BFG and they have a warehouse in the UK. However, after I registered my card - they don't seem to respond anymore to my emails :D. At least I don't think 24/7/365 free email support means that I haven't got a reply in three business days.

I live in Finland, northern Europe and I am actually willing to pay the ~45 euros for shipping to BFG warehouse just to get another similar BFG card. I could have bought any other brand from Finland (Asus for example) if I had wanted to buy one. But I wanted BFG, especially for the 10 year warranty. If I sent it to OcUK they would pay me back the shipping after testing it faulty but as I wrote above I might not get a BFG back.

What should I do? Maybe I am just hurrying..but also disappointed.

Welcome to the forums :)

Send basically what you have posted to Jeff, he sorts people out whenever there is a BFG issue on the forums :) It's also worth noting that if you can't get a OC2 back you could very easily flash/overclock the other card to match the OC2 speeds.

You may also find it interesting to read the following thread, where Jeff seems to have resolved the issue.

Ok I also wrote to Jeff and after that I got also a reply from BFG that they have created an RMA for me. I haven't heard from Jeff, of course the vacations are running atm and so. :-)

Actually I am not in a too good mood right now. BFG support made an error with my street address as they forgot to input the COUNTRY where I live in into the address. I don't think there are similar streets in UK or USA..well that was funny.

Now I have waited again for two days with no reply so it seems I have to wait for a week again to get my RMA number from them. I don't dare to even think how long it will take to get my replacement card back through BFG. With my luck the replacement card will ofcourse be faulty too..

Well, it looks I´m in the same boat as you. I already contacted BFG but since last Thursday, I sent to the support team my address and so on, no reply at all. I also sent an email to Jeff on Sunday and no reply at all. Have to wait I guess, but the famous 24/7/365 tech support is not working in our cases :(

Well I just checked My Profile at BFG an apparently there is a new graphic card coming my way. If this s true I'm just astonished :eek::eek:, I haven´t received any notification and that's why the small rant but if it is true I don´t have words to express my gratitude. I will let you know how it goes:cool:

Ive RMA'd cards to BFG twice in the past and theyve always been great with me! Hope you guys can sort out your problems.

And dakotha, seem a similar situation before where sombody had 2 9800GTX cards in sli and one broke. They told BFG it was for sli so would need the same spec card back but BFG just asked for both cards back and sent out 2 new GTX260's :D They tend to pretty good helping people out :)

Like someone else already stated in this thread, if the card you receive isn't the EXACT same as the working card, you can quite easily flash the BIOS on that card with the same BIOS on the working card to make them match...

Yeah, I had that shipped out for you the other day but I didn't get a chance to email you until this morning. It looks like it is stuck in customs right now (no idea why though) but it should be there in a couple of days.

Cheers Jeff, I read your email yesterday. It's in Paris right now so it should be flying to me by today. They may even try to deliver by tomorrow :p:p

Ok now I've been contacted by Jeff and BFG is actually going to arrange a pickup for my card. Excellent! I'll post here how things turn out but anyway this is great news.

Thanks Jeff!

Replacement card received and running. I haven´t done too much tests but in a couple of games that the previous one gave me corruption after 5-10 minutes, this one does not do it. So quite happy hear, thanks Jeff

I've had some problems with the pickup, two days of my vacation went waiting for the courier at home to pick my card but I saw nobody..:p

Tomorrow, on Friday, the courier should finally come, hopefully this will finally work. At least I got a reference number for the pickup so if nobody is coming from the courier company I can call them or something..

Ok card has been picked now up by Fedex (on Friday) and from the tracking I can see that it has been received in the BFG warehouse. Hopefully everything will go smoothly, I'd really appreciate if I'd get a new card and not a repaired one. And hopefully anything I get is not DOA again. :D

And thanks Jeff - it's always nice to see this kind of "personal" support.

Ok Fedex brought a swapped card today. That's nice, but..

The swapped card has the same symptoms! It has a different serial number sticker, a slight cut in the cooler sticker, it's not the same card.

This card didn't pass ANY run of 3D06 I tried either :D:D:D. Also tested Crysis Warhead - got 'display driver has stopped responding' after a while.

Then I got mad and built a test computer from scratch to test this GFX card:

MSI nF550 mobo
AMD X2 3800+ AM2
1 GB DDR2
Corsair HX620
Windows XP @ 40 GB SATA
Newest drivers from NVIDIA today

And guess what..on 3DMark06's canyon flight test the textures begin to flicker after a while and then totally strange, actually last time it went green with different colour pixels around the screen.

Okay, so it's busted. Swapped the card again into my gaming PC with totally different hardware, lowered the clocks to 'STOCK' GTX285 speeds (648/1476/1242) and this time it would run 3D06 through.

Gonna shoot Jeff some questions after I cool down a bit. :)

And yes, last time I tried the another card I bought from OcUK runs just fine. And currently I have been using my 8800 Ultra SLI setup while waiting for a working 285 from BFG - my 8800's are absolutely trouble-free.

I don't think anyone has run any tests on this swapped card either, as it takes only a few mins 3d06 to see it crashing.

Well now I have got a new card and finally, it works fine, at least it passed 3dmark06. :)

I had to run 3dmark06's first run with this card eyes closed as I didn't want to see it fail again. :D

Jeff arranged me a brand new card. Nice.
