Bhutto killed

I posted a thread in speakers corner, I am trying to understand why people wanted her dead, can someone explain please because I really dont know (excuse my ignorance)
 
Pakistani former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has been killed in a presumed suicide attack, a spokesman for the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) says.

Other reports said Ms Bhutto had only been injured and taken to hospital.

Hopefully the latter is the truth.

Alas, seems they were out to get her & have suceeded.

I was just reading about that. 2 weeks before the elections, and not surprising in the least bit.

She was pro-democracy, and diametrically opposed to the Zia-ul-Haq regime. A forward-thinker in a backward nation.

I'm still trying to work this out as well, I was going to post in your other thread but hadn't entirely made my mind up.

On the one hand it seems that a number of countries had reason to suspect her of corruption, and had even linked her to an arranged murder. Whereas on the other hand, she championed women's rights in a country where they basically don't exist - and as mentioned above she also stood for democracy in an otherwise regime led country. However, she was pro-Taliban for some time too - seems weird to support people who's beliefs contradict your own.

More reading to be done methinks...

not really as she had already robbed the country blind in the past


it may be convenient for the west though if hard line islamists claim responsibility as it may turn a large section of the pakistani population against them..it will also be convenient for musharaff as it means no elections in the short term..so everyones a winner

not that I'm suggesting conspiracies...the nutjob islamists are capable of this on their own as they have no heed of any other consequences

thats the plain truth gilly...she had made a lot of enemies..could be any one of them
 
I'd expect the ISI to come under suspicion here (whether correctly or not). The only doubt I have in my mind about it being Islamists is that Musharraf should be their number one target after his support for the 'war on terror' - and they haven't taken him out.
