It's cool that you don't care what anyone else thinks and to do your own thing. But to diss experience is just silly.

Being constructive I'll tell you why: The RP23 (like most air shocks) lacks mid stroke support, meaning when you hit med-big jumps/drops, it will blow through its travel. The RP23 isn't a bad shock but it has a tendancy to wallow in the mid stroke and get overheated on medium length DH runs. I could tell you that with experience with my T2 and as it turns out Ichabod Crane with his diminutive weight noticed it too.

I have owned a Nomad before. If I were you spending all that money I wouldn't be so dismisive of others opinions. After all, some of us have an educated opinion.

I really hope you take your bike for the ragging it deserves.

If you had followed my posts you would know I HAVE listened to your reccomendation and others and already said when funds allow i will be looking at a CCDB.
Forks wise i really like my 180mm i find i use all the travell and like the way the bike feels with them.

IC - Not flexy at all thats why there is no need for a 15mm axle or such. My back end certainly wont snap when i sit on the bike. ;)

Bike tape and frame wrap on, hardest bit was peeling the damn backing off.
You cant tell its there once its on though, the smell is lovely as well.

Get the rest of the bits done tonight and start on the brake and shifter cables sat morning.

There is a vid on Youtube....somewhere, showing that descent. It's just epic.

I'm itching to get up there. I have a trip planned in August. Can wait. Some of the best trails in the UK I have been told.

Awesome, dude!

I do the full black at least once a fortnight in the summer.
I have only just managed to do the ladder non stop.....it's a killer

Gorgeous pics, looks like a good bit of techy climbing in the 2nd one :)

How long have you had the SPDs? It's a bit of a can of worms subject, there are people who manage fine using them for all kinds of riding (DH, XC, tech trail etc) and others who just keep it simple with flats (like me), maybe see what sort of adjustment you have to speed up your unclipping?

I've had Shimano M520's on the Acid since I got it. Never tried it with flats. I suppose coming from a roadie background kinda steered me towards SPD's as I've been using them on the road bike for years. I haven't really played much with the adjustment of them though so I might try that and see how it goes. My DMR's should arrive from CRC today so I'll hopefully get a chance to fit them and give them a go at my local trail over the weekend. My local trail at Carron Valley is all fast swoopy stuff with no technical ascents so I probably wont get a decent idea if the flats are for me or not until I get out to somewhere more technical. I managed Laggan with the SPD's fitted with no real problems, fell off twice at low speed and the biggest issue I have with the M520's is that when you do actually have to unclip and stop or fall off, it's nigh on impossible to get started easily again and get clipped back in.

I'd love to go back soon to Wildcat but try it with the DMR's this time. Oh and I might even consider wearing some armour as well!!. :D

**EDIT** Postie just arrived with my new pedals as I was sitting here typing this.

Haha, I thought it would be fun to stir the pot.

That said, I agree 180mm up front is a helluva lot of bike for the intended use. An "do it all" that's 20mm off world cup race bike front travel seems somewhat overkill
Saying that "I use all the travel" is irrelevant, the point is that it's a lot of travel to be using, when you are out on trail centres.

I *think* that Vanessa and Scott's point was that you look like you are building a mini DH bike. I did that with my SX trail back in the day by sticking Totems on it. The bike rode fantastic, but it lost its "ride everywhere, all day long" ability

Either way, like you say, it's your bike and you can do just what the hell you feel like with it ... after all, Vanesse uses 170mm Lyrics!

ps: I call BS on the claimed weight of sub-31 with that pinkbike build I linked!

+1 on frame protection upto the BB if you can. I have had many a branch etc trapped in their and gauge a couple of marks out the paint.
