Ive converted my bike to a 2X10 setup, so dont have the 42 tooth gear any more, its basically 24/32 on the front with 11-36 on the back. The chain is a Shimano SLX 10 speed one, not sure if that makes any difference (aren't they thinner than 9 speed chains?)

He means using the small front ring and a smaller sprocket on the back.

For example:
small front ring (24) and 28 sprocket is the exact same gear ratio as the 32 ring in the 36 sprocket but should give you a much straighter chainline.

It's from the chain on the back cassette but can't see exactly what is causing it. I'm guessing the derailleur needs adjusting perhaps?

So it's not quite in gear - and it's kinda jumping, therefore making the clicking sound?

If that's the case, then yes you can just adjust the mech, depending on which mech it is?

Looks like I'm heading to Laggan Wolftrax on Friday for the day :) Looking forward to it, nice facilities there by the sounds of it.Has anyone been? Whats the riding like?
Laggan is an awesome track. I did the black trail the day after doing Fort William - the best 2 days riding ever.
It's marketed as aggressive XC and it's certainly that; the most technical XC track in the UK.

Have fun :)

Ahh right makes sense sorry, hopefully in the next month or two I can ditch the front mech all togeather as I intend on going 1X10 once I get a suitable road bike.

It should be an SRAM X7.

Yeah it is an SRAM X7 and you're right cow it'll jump sometimes. Think I'll take it down to the nearest bike shop, should be an easy fix for them I guess.

I can't contain myself, booking the Chalet on Wednesday.. YEEWWWWWWW!!!
Still just watching loads of videos and I was reminded of some good tracks, including that one where I faceplanted a gap :p

Watching these two slow pokes, which is kinda cool coz you can get to see more of the tracks with them going snails pace

@3:10 in the vid I did a sly overtake on one of my mates, by taking a sketchy line on the left and hucking the last bit to flat, when I realised it can't be ridden further :p (the trees on the left, had to gap from the rocks, over the roots, to flat)

It's spots like that which just makes you smile and a DH bike flex it's muscles!

That place looks AMAZING SC! Where are you staying?

Man I have to persuade my biking mate to go to France (but he had a bad experience in Paris a long time ago and doesn't fancy it - he needs a clip!) !!!!!!!!

Sorry to sound like a pessimist, but even with cheap levers and a new cassette, you'll still probably find your shifting is rubbish until it's properly setup, and you might be paying £25-30 to get that done right at a bike shop.

If I were you, I'd live with it and save the money.

So long as the bike doesnt jump around while in a certain gear, then it's fine surely?

Yep, once its in gear its fine...

What sort of money should I be looking to put aside for a functional 9 speed rear cassette, front and rear shifter, cables and new levers do you think?

It does work OK, its just a pain messing around with the gears when going up a hill.

Thanks for the responce. :-)

SuperCow, when are you going to Morzine? I'll be there this coming Saturday 9th!! w00p w00p :D :D

Yea, staying at the Super Morzine lift, at the Rider's retreat "barn" - the week of the 15th August
I'm so amped right now, as I was not able to go... up until this weekend when a mate of mine managed to make it happen for us :D

You renting a big bike then this time around from the get go?

I'll be riding an Orange Alpine 160. Should be enough. I dont think I'll be doing any of the Chatel bike park... mate of mine might - I'll be happy watching.
