Big Bike Thread

Going back to the previous conversation, I'd chose a transition over a specialized any day.
Fair enough :)
With Trans bikes having the same geo as the equivilent Spesh bikes, and identical suspension platform, then all you're missing out on is a curvey, sculpted frame and a lighter shock link.

Pretty much looks like they bought the 2010 frame schematic drawings from Spesh and changed the name :D :p

Not ridden either I just think the transitions look prettier :D

And they don't use any daft proprietary shocks. I don't want to be tied to specific shocks.

While they may be in the same category, they are not the same.

To dispel your ignorance, here's some geometry basics for ya

Sizing of a bike is generally measured by it's reach and standover. Traditionally this has been measured by seat tube, but this is more applicable to road bikes due to the static nature of the terrain and bike geometry.

Bike characteristics and intent is measured by various things, such as wheelbase (stability), chainstay length (playfulness vs all out traction), head angle and travel.

So, two bikes that are according to you, are the same / identical:

Taking the medium sized bike for each as representative of the entire line (let's also forgot that there's an XL size of one of them)

Sizing
Reach: The Patrol is significantly longer with a longer front centre measurement (432 VS 421)

Standover: Unfortunately the Tranny site doesn't list this, and my trigonometry sucks and will not attempt to work it out. So we can base it loosely on the seattube height.
The patrol is 419 and the Enduro is 425 . Some riders like to be able to "size up" if they prefer even longer bikes, or fall in between sizes. This sizing up, is less of a gamble with the patrol, because the seat tube is lower, and therefore you can slam the dropper (ewwwww) all the way down to the collar.

Characteristics
Head angle: Whoaaaa, points for SDK, both bikes have near identical headangles...[Insert Senator Clay Davis Expletive here], that must mean that the bikes are IDENTICAL right. So wow, much same, very Enduro.

Travel: Another massive win for SDK, they are near the same travel.

Wheelbase: Patrol is 1181 and the Enduro is 1160. Again, quite a large difference, indicating that the patrol is more stable at higher speeds, but may be less manoeuvrable than the Enduro, particularly in tight spots.

Chainstay: Here's another enormous difference. While both of the CS measurements of the bikes are classified broadly as "short", those who know a little bit more, know that the Enduro is SUPER short @422, where the Patrol is 430. This would indicate that the Enduro is a bike that loves to be ridden off the back wheel, much like it's bigger brother, the Demo. Those who have ridden a demo will know exactly what I mean.

As for both having a horst-link suspension, while they may use the same platform - it does not mean that their suspension curve / progression curve is the same. The bikes can have entirely different - wheel paths, braking responses / anti-squat and acceleration response.
I don't have the know-how to spoon feed you those.

TL;DR: SO - I'm not saying one is better than the other (personal preference and all that), but categorically saying...

The Transition Patrol has exactly the same Geo as a Spesh Enduro. (Although Trans don't show BB height).
It even uses the same FSR 'Horst' link suspension as Spesh bikes. The Spesh patent expires and they all jump on the bandwagon :)

...is entirely incorrect, no matter how many smileys you put after idiotic statements.

Will there be a slideshow later? I don't want to miss it but have to pop to the shops for popcorn.

Nah I've written my war and peace, he can continue to act superior as he pleases. Status quo really, back to when he used to post in this thread a couple years back.

you should. clearly the tranny sucks as it has a dropper..

Shut it, we've clearly established that droppers are for people who need it, not the elite.

I quite like it apart from the integrated seat post, wasn't a fan when scott did it on the top end scales. Looks like pure race day geo wise too, I wouldn't want to spend too long on it, but I'd like a go!

Nice Look XC bike, I've always liked the design with a semi integrated stem. I bet it's super light and flies up hills.
OcUK'ers going to hate on the no dropper post though.

No surprises, I love it!

Saddle to bar drop might be an issue though? (i'm guessing you cant put spacers under that stem?)

Is it a 29er? Frame makes the wheels look tiny.

Because we fit them to every bike including road bikes

Good one bro! :D
