Lol knew people would comment on the seat, it's actually not half as bad as it looks in the pic, I had to angle the camera so that's why it looks so bad :D

Guess who's booked a demo day on one of these for next Saturday :D

Ibis Mojo HD160

Na just at a local bike shop, Ibis deliver demo bikes to dealers weekly, I asked them to put in a request for one for next weekend.

Ibis cycles uk mentioned the Afan demos but it's a bit of a trek.

Am I right in assuming that most people dont repair tubes anymore, they just replace the tube ?

Edit: I used the "Rema TipTop" stuff to repair it but thinking of getting a pack of these when I roder the tube - http://www.evanscycles.com/products/park/p02c-glueless-patch-kit-ec005508

Anyone used em ??

I patch when appropriate, although my MTB's are all on tubeless wheels. A proper rubber patch and vulcanising glue when used correctly is stronger that the self adhesive. But they do work if you can get a good seal with them.

Cheers 6th. This patch seems to be holding properly this time. I guess I just didnt press down the edges properly last time although I also put the patch on when the tube was flat then pumped it up outside the tyre so I may have overstretched it as the tube goes really big without a tyre to hold it.

This time I put the patch on when flat and then refitted the tube to the tyre before inflating it at all.

Is it best to fit the patch with the tube inflated a bit so stop it stretching?

We shall see how it goes. Worst comes to it I should have the new tubes tomorrow....

EDIT: Just on the brakes thing - How far should V-Brakes be away from the rim as standard? You can hardly even see light passing between the pad and the rim when the brake is released on mine... Is this normal? The brake lever travel seems ok for me... Is this the thing to look for? i.e. Adjust cable until lever feel is what you want when braking with the wheel not rubbing when lever not pressed?

I will inflate the tube just enough to give it shape then apply the patch. Hold it in place with your finger and thumb for about a minute then install. Works for me every time. :)

Ideally V brakes should line up straight vertically. I say ideally because if you have a bucked wheel then they may sit outwards some what.

My brakes do line up straight although I think my rear wheel has a slight buckle which can be seen if looking very very closely when its spun fast (its like a 1-2mm). My ride tomorrow takes me past a couple of LBS's so I may see if they can true it up while I wait...

Ummm gold jockey wheels. This wasn't just a whim, the SRAMs actually wore out in 3 months.

However the wifey got me some nice carbon bars for Xmas, I’ve just stuck some bar grips for my longer rides. Ultra comfy!!!

Plus been out in the garage with the spoke key getting a kink out in the rear cheese rims.

*snip*

Does the chain cycle any differently with 13t jockey wheels? I am curious as to whether it makes a difference or improvement over 11t.

I bought a cheap bike just to get me started, and one of the tubes has a hefty puncture, so I'm looking to replace the front and rear tubes, and was just wondering what tubes to go for? I was wondering if : http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=35685 are any good?

Not at £10 a tube  Get what ever you can find the cheapest.

Is it not worth spending a little more to get anti-puncture tubes then?

I was about to link to the Conti's that I just bought for £2.99 each which were on special at Evans but they no longer have them (hope mine turn up now !!!). They do have the same ones but with Presta valves instead of Schraeder for the same price - http://www.evanscycles.com/products/continental/26-x-175-25-presta-valve-mtb-tube-ec017410

Alternatively - http://www.evanscycles.com/products/specialized/inner-tube-ec001873

Janesey - what bike is that ?

Help!

I'm looking for a new mountain bike but haven't been keeping an eye on what's what for about 15 years now. Back then I had a GT but I don't know what's half decent these days.

My budget is up to £500, I've been looking on Evans Cycles, are these any good?

http://www.evanscycles.com/products/gt/avalanche-30-disc-2011-mountain-bike-ec026166

Cheers

I have the non-disc version of the Hardrock and am very happy with it. I am sure others with more experience will be on recommending different bikes though.

In retrospect I should have went for the disc version as the non-disc does not come with disc compatible hubs so its expensive to upgrade them but I didnt think I would need/want discs and I preferred the white colour scheme of the non-disc one :p. Exact same bike though.

I guess, as your budget is upto £500 you could buy the Hardrock Disc and spend the rest on replacing the fork with this - http://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/FORSRETK/rockshox-recon-silver-tk-coil-100mm-fork-with-lockout

I could be wrong tho :p

EDIT: That fork is only available in white now so might look weird on a black bike unless you get red/white frame...

In my opinion nope, they are still going to puncture. All tubes will eventually die so its not worth spending lots on them, Tesco used to sell tubes for £1.50 but I think they have gone up now.
