And this wheelset is aimed for XC racing:confused:
The weight is probably coming from the hugh balloon tyres. Not that the bike is heavy but was expecting to be lighter.

The AL wheel range are the budget Roval wheels

Control AL : 1575g
Control EL : 1425g
Control SL : 1385g

If you want lighter then you'll have to spend more.
I think if you stick some Racing Ralphs, Conti Race Kings or Maxxis Aspen tyres on there you'll see the difference.

Hi all,

I am getting back into mountain biking. I currently have a Kona Blast 2004 version hardtail which has done me proud since i got it.

However I am looking to upgrade now to a full suspension bike. The reason mainly would be better traction over the rough stuff instead of being bounced about so much and also some extra comfort I think.

So I have been looking around myself, its been a long while since I knew what was good/bad in terms of parts and bikes so looking for some advice. I have seen the following which I think would make a good bike..............

Lapierre Zesty 214 2010 Mountain Bike - £1299

Specialized FSR XC Expert 2010 Mountain Bike - £1099
http://www.evanscycles.com/products...bike-ec020337?query=specialized fsr xc expert

Hope its ok to put the links in here. If not please remove.

I would like, if possible to hear your thoughts on those two plus any others you think I should be considering. It would seem the above two bikes have been reduced quite a bit as they are 2010 models.

Thanks!

They said did I want anything else? So I thought I'd go for a pro2 wheel set. They sent me a pro3 wheel set instead.

The Roval Control AL wheels imo is a trail ready wheel set (heavy?). I wanted something light as a feather for racing on in the spring.
Problem is that the discs are not the right size for the callipers so would need adapters etc. I’m still deciding whether I get rid of, or keep them. I might build it up and see if there is a significant weight reduction.

Went for my first ride on it today. 6 hours in the saddle and was a bit of an epic ride across the Cotswolds. Not my cup of tea tbh.

Edit - Just looked at this:

Why not just change the discs? :D

None of you will approve of my big bmx but oh well :P

Call Hope, tell them you want a different size rotor and go from there, they might be £30 each but you may be able to negotiate the return and exchange of the rotors you have.

Few of us doing Dalby today red and mix of black.

I'll leave my Reign at home today and take the Malt 4 out as its not seen much action recently.

Mates are all mostly running 140 - 160mm full sussers today so I should be smoking them on the ups, but my fitness recently is a little shocking.
Hench one of the reasons for taking my hardtail and the fact it's at least 5 pound lighter than my Giant Reign.

Panaracer Mach SS's on the Malt too so should be interesting, its been dry at Dalby so hopefully they won't wash out too much.

Also I've been a little critical of Dalby since they made the XC WC changes, but I've been riding it on a 150mm AM bike and it just feels too easy ! Oddly ! ;)

So hopefully today will make me eat my hat and remember how much fun hardtails can be.

Did a route at Glen Tanar this morning. 850ft climb over 2 miles on an old landrover track. And that's not even the steepest part by a long shot! So glad I have Talas.

Had a little ride out in Guisborough Forest this morning, couldn't stay too long cos my mate had to take his kids to the bat, think we're going to go back next week for a bit longer. It was sticky & muddy as hell in places, think I need some winter tyres, these Fast Trak ones get full quick :D

Anyway, here's where we went; http://api.mobile.endomondo.com/workouts/jJpDoxzJgU0

And here's a blurry picture of me having a break;

Large, You'll notice the seat stay support being larger than the photo's on the Specialized site.

Update: New Disc ordered for the pro3 wheelset. Im not riding this untill I get the protection tape Monday / Tuesday, Im not having another bike that looks like its been to Sarajevo and back with in a week. Plus sintered pads ordered as pads are nearly gone from gritty ride Saturday. All in all, Im chuffed

Yeah the seat frame support. I assumed it was large / med difference.
Anyway, although it came prebuilt I have taken it apart and reassembled to make sure that’s its ok for tomorrows ride.

pics as it is now:

Additional differences are:

1. Titanium disc bolts
2. Red hope quick release
3. Heletape on order!

And also the insurance company sent me Hope pro 3 wheel set with dt 4.2.d rims. which I dont want as they have the wrong disc size etc...
Looking forward to tomorrow.
If I was going to have a sexual experience with a bike that would be the bike! Very impressive janesssssy, words can't describe how jealous I am .

Recommend new brake pads for Elixer cr's? please.

I use Superstar Kevlar pads in my Elixer R's and they are fantastic, cheap and last quite a while (My brakes get hammered too), plus with:
Brake pad Guarantee: If you don’t like them with 45 days of use, send them back and we will give you your money back! We are so confident of the pads we sell; we have a no quibble trial period.

You can't go wrong :)
