Looking good m8. Don't worry about the pedals; I have some Eggbeater SL's and also a set of the C models and there isn't much difference. I would buy the C's again.

So one of my rear wheel spokes snapped off today 700c wheel.
Just wondering on how much it would cost to replace.
I was thinking of going to evan cycles and let them replace and true the rear wheel for me.

I don't have a 2nd bike so I'm forced to bike on it even with 1 spoke missing is it alright for now?

it's the Fulcrum Racing 7

I rode Fort William DH & Innerleithen with two spokes missing from my front wheel and Glentress with 3 missing. All this on a front wheel with only 24 spokes to start with. It was slightly scary but the wheel and myself both survived.

So, i'm sure a bit of road use will be fine with 1 missing.

oh that's alright then until I have some free time to sort it out.
Although this is the rear wheel where I guess most of my weight is.

I ride quite aggressive and sometimes it's too dark to actually see some of the smaller road bumps.

Went out today with 20 Club members on the Quantocks, First time with my new Garmin Edge 705. I should have paused it when at the pub lunch instead of starting a new ride. oh well.

As we say at our club, quantock miles are double!

If anyone has a Garmin Edge 705 please could I get in contact. I have a few questions. :)

Quantock miles are indeed double, the hills are insane!

Went for the closing weekend of Plattekill this weekend and camped last night, it was about -8C overnight :D

Janesssssssy I've been using a 705 for a couple of years, post your Q's up and I'll see if I can answer.

Any recommendations on proper brake pads for wet rim lol? my new bmx wheel is gloss black painted including the side wall.. when the rim gets wet brakes basically cut off.. no response AT ALL..

youve got a very slim chance of getting a bmx brake to work well in the wet

the best pads are probably koolstop or oddysey but they will still be poor in the wet . keeping the rim clean is the most important thing to do

by bmx brake you mean a special "bmx pads?" if so i don't really care since now i use brake pads from my MTB.. :D

hmm.. cleaning it with alcohol would be kinda good.. gets the grease off doesn't it?

Mint period drama, and the last one of the series :(

It was alright…. May be interesting next series as the 1st world war has now started.

Bloody southerners, wouldn't know a hill if it bit you on the nose ;)

All in sludgy mud. May not be very tall but up,down,up,down,up,down…… you get the idea.

Thanks 6th, I wanted to know how to get an OS map on the device, Ive downloaded a free map from:
http://talkytoaster.info/ukmaps.htm which is better than the base map. But not perfect.

Also, can I upload some one else’s GPX route and follow it. One of the main reasons for getting this was to discover new mtb routes. If I don’t start from exactly from the start position will it still ‘try’ and follow?

Good to see you back on the bike! btw :)

With my Dakota 20 if your using a route as apposed to a track, it'll pick up when you arrive at a waypoint and direct you to the next one automatically. Handy for starting halfway round, or if you cut a bit out or whatever. If you use a track it just displays it on screen, as theres no waypoints to follow.

If its the same as my Dakota, you just save the GPX file in the GPX folder in the devices memory.

OS maps, you have to buy, or they may, ahem, be out there ;)

http://mobac.dnsalias.org/ is very useful for making free OS maps, but the Garmin units usually have a limit of how many tiles you can have on at once, so you have to spend time putting the maps on before you set off each time.

Above all applies to the Dakota, don't know if the 705 is the same. I have the national parks 1:25k and then add other areas when I need them (if I remember) from Mobile Atlas Creator.

Quick answer, the 705 can "follow" tracks (gpx), routes (gpx) or courses (tcx). For road riding I generate gpx routes and provided you have routable maps on the unit they will navigate you like a car sat nav.
For off-road riding I generate gpx tracks or download other peoples gpx tracks from Garmin Connect or other websites. Personally I don't choose the navigate option with gpx tracks, instead I just make them visible on the map and follow them manually.
A course can be used to navigate on the road or off road, more useful if you've a set ride that you do and you want to race against yourself as it has a virtual partner you can race.

I "acquire" the Garmin maps or for me www.gpsfiledepot.com is great for free topo, another source is http://garmin.na1400.info/routable.php

Go read the garmin forums and get familar with the Mapsource software.

HI dudes,

had an off on saturday morning on super slippy paving slabs. I wasn't even tricking out, just went to turn left with a slight lean and BANG, front goes away and off I roll. But, I wasn't braced for impact so I literrally stopped dropped and rolled, almost back onto my feet. Slight graze on my elbow and hurt my wrist a little.

In other news, the bike, which I was more worried about, escaped pretty unharmed too bar a slight rip in the saddle and a scratch on the handlebar end cap.

Saddle wise, I was looking to replace it anyway. A few months ago, a new saddle brand came on the market and everyone was raving about them but I can't remember the name for the life of me. Anyone know who I might be talking about?
