My bike had been clean for too long so I headed out on some old trail that I had no idea existed till the other week which are 5-10 mins cycle from my door. These are not actual MTB trails but old "footpaths" and rights of way. All very narrow (single person) and, for now, very muddy.

Nothing very demanding for some of the people on here although there were a couple of bits that were quite decent especially given the slippery conditions. I chickened out on 1 and walked it :o - It is a steep downhill section (bout 60 degrees angle and only about 3 meters long) where some of the ground has slipped away but it immediately goes onto a rocky outcrop which is very wet and slippy as the fast river washes up onto it (I should have taken a photo TBH, I will next time I am going past it).

Bit later, I was hurtling (well, ok 16MPH according to GPS) downhill on a gravel path and forgot there were about 5-6 steps about 2 meters apart. Decided the best thing was to just ride it out and hope for the best before slamming the brakes on after the last one as the track narrowed to about 3 meters wide and descended into woods again :o

This, I think, is where I got my puncture :(

First puncture ever and I had to walk my bike the half mile back home :(

Granted, the "tracks" I mention are nothing like what others on here (weescott, IC etc) do but, having never done anything really off-road on any bike ever, it was a nice learning experience.... Got to start somewhere I guess :o

Anyone here use this on their bike or something similar - http://www.tweekscycles.com/Product.do?method=view&n=918&g=0&p=16495 or is this just as good? - http://www.tweekscycles.com/Cycle/Frames/Frame_Protection/Demon_Tweeks_Clear_PVC_Tape/918/7362

Thinking of using it for the underside of the downtube where most of the crap hits the frame. Also thinking of using it on the left side chainstay as I have noticed many scratches appear on it and I think its the heel of my left foot thats causing it as I pedal...Either that or get another chainstay protector ?

Ok so took the advice of IC and ordered the 661 knee pads, also went for the 661 comp pressure suit, might as well get it all out the way now, got a feeling that with all this gear on im gonna look more like robocop than a downhill biker!

I have tried the 661 Evo and pro pressure suits both were really comfy you should be fine with that :D
