Ordered black and white :D

Saw this 2010 frame respray and it just looks so pimp with white rims:

Should look even nicer with the updated white 2011 decals :)

My new bike ive got Mavic 823 rims which are tubeless ready.

Being totally new to tubeless do i need any sealent with these rims?...Is the selant also used for puncture prevention,or just to seal the tyre?

Thanks

I take it I've got the 9sp one?

Aye.

They are UST, not tubeless ready. /pedant

It depends what tyres you are using. If you use normal or tubeless ready tyres then you will need sealant. If you are using UST tyres you don't. But some UST tyres could benifit from sealant as well. eg Mountain Kings.

Heads up - The Adventure Show starts at 1900 on BBC 2 Scotland covering the Strathpuffer 24hr Mountain Bike event :)

For the Southerners - you can see it on iPlayer or one of the 900 range of Sky channels.

I put a scoop of stans in my Deemax wheels (near enough the same as the 823 rim) just so I've got some in there if something pierces the tyre. You don't need sealant to seal true UST tyres and rims though.

The difference is the bead hook. The UST system has the best seal between the rim and tyre of all the tubeless systems. Tubeless ready rims might not have sealed eyelets or have the UST bead hook.

UST tyres have thicker sidewalls and don't require sealant. The downside is they are heavier.

Tubeless Ready tyres have thinner sidewalls and require sealant. But some will have the bead hook (eg Stans or UST) making them less likely to 'burp' off the rim, which is what some ghetto tubeless setups can do.

What chain lubes do people recommend for an MTB? Finishline Green or Red bottle seems the most popular but just curious....

Wasn't sure whether to go for wet or dry lube actually.... I get the impression that wet lube is used if you are regularly in water/mud etc but dry lube is easier to get on with as it doesnt "gunk up" as bad as wet lube....

So dry is the way to go?
