ok so a little background info.
I have a ford mondeo hatchback.
I own a drumkit, which I cart around all over the place. I can get all the drums in no worries.

Problem:
my stepdad (bassist) has recently joined both the bands that I am in. he doesnt drive. I need to get his bass rig in the back as well. and it just wont fit.

I need a new car. I need to be able to get more than I can get into the mondeo.
I need reliability (loads of miles a year, certainly until I go abroad maybe later this year for work).
I do around 300-400miles a week (every other week if I am lucky)
I have the mondeo I can sell (or px, maybe 500quid) and I have 2500quid saved up.
insurance is not a problem.

I suppose I am looking for a hardcore estate (needs to be able to take a good weight)
or a large 4x4 (liking this idea)
or a people carrier (mum on a school run look isnt good for my rock star image)

I would just go and buy a posties van, but I could do with a little style as well really. a red battered posties van is exactly what I need though :(. cant pull the birds in that one!

so, any ideas would be great so I can extend my search on autotrader.

cheers guys.

My choice obviously. You can get them quite cheap if you're not too worried about being flash.

How many children do you have? :p

Not unless you live in a caravan or work at a fairground?

The other choice would be a white van: transit or similar. I considered one for lugging my motocross bike around, but went for the pickup instead for its chavvy looks :o

Think Jack Black in the School of Rock

yeah I dont really want to insure 2 motors though. 400quid a year fully comp for the mondeo (20k miles etcetc) and insuring a transit for a year would be similar.

I mean, at this very moment in time my mondeo is sat in my work carpark with all the kit in it slowly but surely destroying the suspension etc.
I probably dont get much over 20-25mpg whilst dragging the kit round.
I need more space.

been checking the trader. maybe an audi a4 estate. diesel or petrol. 4k seems to get a lot of car. sure I can scrape 4k together.

just looking to scratch some ideas together really.

A volvo 740 or similar seems the obvious choice. We used to be able to get insane amounts in my drummers dads 740.

Either that or the posties van. Slammed, and full of bullet holes of course;).

i have had a litle look @ the mondeo.
it is a tough choice.

so far my ideas:

2000 (w plate) mondeo, or vectra (seem more loaded with toys)

1997 a4, or bmw 318
