If you can get shop credit for that card, I would take it. Gibbo says the 8800 GTS will be roughly the same price as the card you've just bought. It will have DX10, which will be the graphics standard for a few years to come.

As for the specs of the card well, opinions arre divided and rumors are everywhere! :D

would i be able to install dx10 on my system ? or is it just on the new cards ?

DX10 is a with Windows Vista, and is Vista's selling point to Gamers :)

If you get Windows Vista, and a G80 card (such as the 8800GTX/GTS) then you'll be able to use DX10.

Your GX2 is 'only' a DX9 card, albeit the fastest out there! :D You won't be able to use the DX10 special features with it.

what are the special features ? ok so i will refund my card which is ok does that mean ill need a motherboard capable of vista have you got any recomendations which have sli compatability aswell ?

Have a look at the screen shots...

Also have a look for the Crysis demo from Crytek. Also Alan Wake (I think that's what its called) is another 'wow, look at those screenshots' game.

Some important things to note:
1. The 8800 series won't be out till 8th November, and they'll only be a hundred or so in stock, so you'll have to be quick. No pre-orders apparently.
2. They'll be £350-£400 for the GTS, and £500+ for the GTX.
3. I don't think you'll need any special motherboard for VISTA. Which do you have? If it is good enough for a GX2, I'm sure it is good enough for Vista!

Is your system AMD (AM2, 939) or Intel Conroe? Without knowing that, it is hard to recommend a motherboard. Not many good SLi motherboards for conroe.

its conroe, yer it was quite hard for me to buy a motherboard capable, so if i got 2 of my graphic cards is this 8800 going to out perform my cards ?

Don't know to be honest, but you won't have DX10 features with DX9 cards, not matter how fast they are. I suppose it comes down to what you want from a system. High fps, or DX10 effects and take a gamble on the fps.

A 3rd solution could be if you swap your GX2 for the EVGA GX2. Pretty much exactly the same card, but they have an upgrade program so if within 90 days of getting that card you want a 8800 GTS/GTX, then you can upgrade with them, send them your old card and only pay the difference between the prices of the two cards. Worth a look if OCuk have any of the EVGA cards left.

Keep it mate, cracking card, you gona need to get Vista in Feb for about £200+ for Dx10, as its not released till then, and DX10 games look like DX9 ones, and will do for about another year yet, that card will cut through everything till then with ease, id only send it back for a refund if you don't mind the hastle of doing it, your gona have to pay a restocking fee as well though as its not a faulty card.

So far it looks like the 8800GTX is just a tiny bit faster than a 7950GX2 but with DirectX 10 support (whatever good that will do for at least a year.) Even easyrider himself said he would be keeping his 7950GX2 if he didn't have the eVGA step-up programme to cut a lot of the cost out of an 8800GTX.
