I've just managed to get my hands on an Opty 165 after months of searching for X24600 or 4800's without success!

Now that the 4600 is available once more and possibly 4800s later this week (really Gibbo?), would I be better getting hold of one of the X2 processors and overclocking those less rather than trying to squeeze the Opty?

My existing CPU is a single Winchester core 3500 which runs at 2.2GHz I believe. I sometimes overclock that when gaming using Easy Tune by about 5 or 6% and I'd hate to go through all the hassle (and cost!) of fitting a new processor only to see no benefit!

This is supposed to be an interim upgrade pending a move to C2D later this year, so am not keen to waste but money but I'd hate to think I made the wrong choice now and regret it when the stocks of the X2 s939s are finally exhausted!

I have some ideas about real overclocking and I'm reading up on the threads here so willing to learn. Ideally I'd like someone to give me some idiot proof instructions on exactly what settings to change and by how much as a gentle introduction to this scarey world. I dont intend to leave it at 1.8GHz that would be daft, but I dont want to kill it with my ineptitude either!

I know enough to be dangerous...!!!
