Climbed up it in 2004, "swam" back down a.k.a lay on your front on the volcanic sand pointing downhill and then use your arms to "front-crawl" through the sand - way easier than walking down an almost vertical slope. Tour guide had never seen that done before, with all our group of 20+ folks then doing the same, tour guide absolutely flummoxed by our, clearly ridiculous, methods .
