I'm looking at SSD's and was considering one of the 2E's, but have heard rumours about a possible issues about the Sandforce controller and Gigabyte mainboards. I haven't been able to turn anything up by Googling for the problem though. Also, can the 2E do TRIM ?

Do any of you know any reason why I should not get the 2E given my spec below ?

yes the 2E supports TRIM as long as your using win7.

never ever heard of a compatibility issue with Gigabyte boards, infact this review - http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/storage/2010/08/17/ocz-vertex-2e-review-120gb/1 - uses a gigabyte board in the test setup.

Same set up as you (UD5) and I have the older OCZ Vertex LE running here which uses a Sandforce SF-1500 controller.
No problems that I can report in the last 8 months that I have had it in the system. I just made sure that I downloaded the recommended Intel Rapid Storage controller. Check out OCZ's forums for the the up to date info

Can I just check the install procedure ?

1) Unplug old HDD
2) Plug in new Vertex 2e 120Gb
3) Install W7 64 to Vertex
4) Profit !

Questions.
Where in the installation can I get windows to put all the libraries on the old HDD.
Do i need to update the Intel storage drivers ? If so, is like any other driver to be found in the control panel ?
Is there anything I am missing ? NB no RAID, no advanced tweaking wanted, just the basics to get the best life/performance from the SSD.
