Big GPUs are set to die

My IQ drops every time I read one of their articles, seriously. They have the best job in the world just sitting around and making crap up out of thin-air all day, and getting paid for it too.

All cards have their moment in the spotlight, just before something comes along and beats it. G80 is having it's moment, When the G80 refresh cards come out I think the card will also be around a while before the R600 hits the market, and if the R600's don't beat the G80 for performance, then the R700's will come out and at that point and the G80 will lose it's crown.

Wonder what Nvidia will have to counter the R700?

I'm not entirely sure what your point is. I'm not complaining about what is specifically said in this article, rather than how everything in it is 100% pure speculation. The Inquirer almost never posts anything but. It's not even news, I could sit around and make up "news" just like that if someone would pay me for it.

Looking at the current (& previous) times that new cards are launched it'll probably be a case of "I wonder what R700 will do to counter the G90" ;)

The G90 isn't the refresh is it, i thought the refresh would be G81 or summit, thats due when R600 hits, the refresh.

G90 would be the 9800GTX etc. wouldn't it? Not the 8900 series...

I agree, the Enq. is a hothouse of rumours. I do sense some kind of truth to this though, I think that GPUs will go the same way as CPUs - with companies trying for multiple efficient GPUs on one card rather than a huge hot power hungry single processor.
