So what do you people reckon about this big hotfix that was released today via Windows Update. Seems like it fixes loads of things according to the bumf, its replacing a lot of key dll's and programs.

Almost a mini-service pack....

I dont see a problem, I also think its good now that Win7 and R2 have the same patches, it'll certainly ease enterprise patch management.

15.9MB, that big enough, and the retail has not even been released yet. Does not say a lot for Win 7.

what? win7 has been out since the end of July, what you get in the retail is the same as what i have had on my PC since August 6th. (gold partner)

to me it says a lot about win7 and how committed they are to get this right, to be honest the first thing you should do after installing win7 is run windows update.. it makes no difference if there is one update or 10, you just do it when you build a new system

Can't believe people are complaining about a 15.9/20.8mb update, the way I look at it is that MS are doing their utmost to make sure that when the 22nd comes W7 is as good as it can be :)

It's a tiny update. SP2 for Server 2008 is 577MB, almost the same size as the entire XP source. In fact, Windows XP Home with SP2 is smaller than SP2 for Server 2008!

+1
Same here, and I have automatic updates turned on and set to pre-download, but not install - I like to check what is going on my system...

Too right!

I'd rather have patches and fixes than problems left unresolved. The days of critisising a company for keeping their product up to date and secure are past - These days we need proactive correction of problems.

It's actually kind of sad. If a software company doesn't fix problems, people complain, and rightly so. However, if the same company does fix problems, people complain about the state of the software because they have to download patches.

What it says to me is that they're fixing last minute things before it launches
furthermore this solved my laptop not hibernating correctly too, so i'm happy!

This should have been sorted out before Win 7 was sent to the manufacturer

Thats why microsoft are sending out these updates, they let it out too early.

All applications and operating systems have updates and patches, you simply cannot test every situation/configuration.

I don't see what you're moaning about

so you expected win 7 to be absolutly faultless and bug free on release day?

I think its good that they're releasing updates. shows they're still working hard on making it the best it can be
