Big problem..

Turned my computer on earlier and none of my applications loaded. Instead i was bombarded with error messages, all saying this;

C:\Windows\WinSxS\x86_microsoft.windows.common-controls_blah blah blah blah blah\COMCTL32.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support.

I googled COMCTL32.dll and didnt really find much to do with my error, so i got my friend who's running Vista Ultimate as well to send me his COMCTL32.dll. I tried to replace it with the one in my System32 folder but i don't have permission :/

So to sum up, nothing runs except x64 IE.

Help!

Give the system file checker a try.
Start CMD as admin and then type sfc /scannow

It finished the scan. It said there were some problems but not all of them were fixed. I can't get into safe mode either because my keyboard has never worked at the boot menu selection

is it a usb one? you'll need to go back to good old ps2 (i think that's what it is lol) to activate it (mine is the same - i keep and old white keyboard handy for such an eventuality!)

I usually would, but i left it at home when i came to uni

Had to format in the end. Vista repair didnt work either.
