Hi,

i have the core i7 920 processor and i want to cool it down a little bit. i was thinking about aquacomputer airplex evo 1080 radiator but will this be enough or will i buy the aquacomputer airplex evo 1800???

here are some pictures:

Well, as a 120.1 will cool it perfectly adequately and a 120.2 will give more cooling than you need. I'd say either of those would be overkill. Just a bit.

Also don't forget that the path-length on those radiators is enormous. You'll need something with a massive head rating like a 24V Laing DC-04 or better eg. Iwaki to get any kind of decent flow-rate.

Sometimes too much capacity is wrong for a job - you're looking at 55-seater coaches when you actually want a 7-seat people carrier.

Jeez, they're gunna be loud... I'd personally opt for something a lot smaller :)

It could be loud, however you just use 1 or 2 fans at the inlet end and that would probably be plenty. I dread to think how the 1800 would sound if fully fanned up.

Actually, with a full complement of 38mm Deltas it would probably qualify as an air conditioning system.

These are car heater cores with shrouds fitted to allow you to mount 120mm fans on them. They wouldn't work well in a passive configuration unless you had them mounted horizontally so air naturally lifted through them.

/\ Just get a PA120.3 without the fans - great semi passive rad if roof mounted with a case fan or two
but rjkoneill is right for all thoses that like to hear their pc's when you open the front door after a night out.
When the eye are all beer goggles is good to use your ears to find the bedroom <jk> :D

...with the option to install 9 x 120mm fans...

Thats just like saying "you'll need 9 fans for this." I'd say for something like that, go for at least 3, in a line across the thing. At least that way all of the water will get at least a little cooling. If i were getting one of those though, I'd want it to work as well as it possibly could, and thus 9 fans would be it.

It would probably need some serious strapping down to stop it taking off as well.

Just don't stick anything like wings to it...

Surely for that to be any use at all, you'd have to be running insane voltages that will eventually kill the CPU?

May I be so bold as to ask why you need one of these monsters for a simple job? Imo those are made for massive overclock jobs or TECing and supporting phased CPUs.

As rjkoneill already said, a nice Thermochill PA and some Yate Loons will do the job perfectly for you.
