So without giving too much away (build log incoming) i'm waiting on some parts to start my new build, the stuff going in will be from my old build which in short the basic kit is:

Current build, last refresh:
https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18732105

  • 6700k
  • 2 x EVGA FTW 1080s
  • Asus Z170 Deluxe
  • 32GB Corsair DDR4
  • Corsair HX1200i
  • 3 x 512GB MX200 SSD
  • 1x 512GB m.2 950 Pro thingy
Currently in a custom loop, with the exception of the 1080s because the blocks still don't exist until the 15th which i've got on order now! Anyway... I've got a new case arriving soon with much more space so I can start to push everything a bit harder and i'm looking for some thoughts on BIG radiators. Currently i'm looking at the following

Top: 360mm, max depth 60mm (+a little more)
Bottom: 480mm, max depth 60-80mm

My thoughts right now are:

  1. Like the look of the Nexxxos Radiators, love them in white but I can't get 480mm in white... Can I?
  2. Either the 60mm or squeeze in the Monsta 80mm
  3. Has anyone painted their rads - is it a pain in the a hole?

Potentially I can mod the case and it will allow for 2 x 420mm (top/bottom), so I guess my question is can anyone recommend some top quality rads that would be a better option? 140mm over the 120mm? Thoughts on the Hardware labs kit?

Cheers!

That is going to be one mother of a rig! I have to wait a month till stock of the black HW Labs SR2 420s come in. There is stock of the white 420s and I think 360s. I was thinking of spraying the white 420 black lol. Issue for me is fan noise when I am working. Going to use 140mm 1100 rpm Nanoxia units. Low fin per inch count on the HW Labs rad lend it better to low rpm fans. Might not be an issue for you if you want to shift more air, in which case there are other rads out there.

Yeah, i'm on the fence with the 420 over 360... I think the HW Labs are absolutely massive in terms of the frame size right? The case has pretty solid airflow straight from bottom (in) to top (out) so should be able to run a pretty cool rig. If the nexxxos came in white 480mm i'd probably have made up my mind but it doesnt... That said the more I think about it wondering what a white rad even looks like installed :D

If you are thinking of a paint job on the rads, nows the time to do it. You did a neat job with your current rig. The width and multiports on the HW Labs might be a pain. Would hate to have to resort to a dremel with a nice new case.

Would be interested in your progress painting the rads. I have a 2nd hand Nexxos 360 UT60 going into Asteria II and it has a few minor dings in it that need a bit of filler to smooth out.

Might wrap in the same matte black I've used on the motherboard, but feel I should probably repaint.

We shall see how it all looks, think i'll have the case tomorrow all going well so the project log will be posted once I do and kept updated. Out of the country for a week but its a good thing because all my EK goodies won't arrive until im back anyway :)

Enjoy the trip if it's pleasure, don't kill people if it's professional.

And fingers-crossed I might have some progress of my own for you to see upon your return :p (curse this wrist!)
