I'm currently in the market for a big stompy robot game. I've only played the Armored Core series on the PS2, but I absolutely love it, but short of buying a 360 or PS3, I'm about done with the series.
So I'd ideally like some kind of PC equivalent. I know of mechwarrior, and am going to be keeping my eyes out for Mechwarrior 4, but are there any other games like this out there?

And while big stompy robots would be ideal, I would probably settle with customisable tanks. I just like the type of game you can heavily costomise your vehicle before going out and blowing everything up. Just its more fun in a robot :D

I do love the title for this thread :D

Mechwarrior was a pretty fun game actually. Few friends of mine played it on Clan, and although i never got that into it, it was pretty fun for a quick blitz. Wouldn't mind picking myself up a copy of any new one they release :)

So, attack the bargain bins for mechwarrior 3? Or is it going to be an ebay jobbie? :(

Any others?

Actually go for Mechwarrior 4, but play the Black Knight expansion, it was a bit more like MW3.

MW3 was good, but had some broken game mechanics that were just too easy to exploit. MW4 still looks pretty good too.

Ok, I'll keep an eyer out for any mechwarrior games then :P

Is that the only series, though?

There aren't enough big stompy robot games. Especially on PC. I had to resort to my 360 to get a fix these days. Really liked Chromehounds on the 360, was nowhere near as impressed with Armoured Core, too arcade like for me.

Mechcommander was great, though my most time lost to any mech game was the turn based Mission Force: Cyberstorm. (But not the sequal, which was pants).

Isn't there some Big Stompy Robots in 2142 ?

Best Thread Title in the History of the Interweb

Strangely enough i am moving out, and have put a mint big box edition of Mechwarrior3 in my "boot sale" pile in my room as i have played it to death

if you are interested, drop me an email (in trust) mate. if you cover the postage, i would rather a fellow forum guy had it :)

MW4 with the arena add ons is a cracking game in multiplayer mode. lots of fun and if you have TS server, even more fun!

if you want a more tactical and very customisable side of this then mechcommander 1 and 2,
AIM for "head shots" as at the end you can salvage almost undamaged mech that you wouldnt be able to buy for few more missions or you'd pay loads for repair ;)
only played demo of the 2nd on but if i can remember it was good as well.
Think there are bundles so you can pick one of each, not sure bout which ones exactly, thinking bout this now i might have a look myself i loved mechcommander 1:)

Ahh Mechwarrior.
I think i have nearly every mech game (with box).

IMHO the best was Mechwarrior 2.
Then MW4 > MW4:Mercs > MW:Mercs > MW4:BK > MW3 > MW2:GBL > MW3 > MW3:PM

IMHO MW3 just wasnt as fun as MW2.

As a Strogg player you can also climb into a big stompy robot in Enemy Territory: Quake Wars. It is quite a laugh using the actual "stomp" option to stamp you big foot when soldiers are running around your feet. Granted it is not the main feature of the game and is only one vehicle on one side but still a bit of fun.
