another vote for mechcommander 1 & 2, great games. i've never tried the mechwarrior ones, might see if i can find a demo.

Not a mech game at all but if you can get into the Mech in Battlefield 2142 you can own the entire game :>

Ahhh robots in games. Used to love the Mechwarrior games as a kid but for me it had to be Shogun: Mobile Armour. The multiplayer anime mech games had me hooked.

further to mechcommander you can download 2nd one from microsoft for free

you have to look for mc2rel.exe to run a game as its a open source now so you can edit all you like as well

+1 mechcommander one of my favorite ever games. mechcommander 2 is also good but not as good as 1. mechcommander 1 also has the best game intro ever.

ive been trying to figure out how to edit the game but havent got very far, its all very awkward what one has to do and i cant find any straightforward guides. ive also tries to get hold of those vids that are suposed to explain it but i get sent all over the joint, asked to "sign up" adding address, phone number etc and its really annoying.

As said though, you either have to compile it in XNA or find the executable somewhere.

theres rumours of a mechwarrior mmo, which i would love to play

apparently the founder of fasa has brought back from microsoft the licences to mechwarrior, shadowrun, and crimson skies

No, you're essentially downloading the source code and resources needed to build the game. You need to get Microsoft XNA studio to compile it (free download from microsoft, comes with visual studio express etc).

Or find the binary someone has already compiled.
