Hitting around 55c load with my 165@ 2.7 ghz on the artic freezer, the cpu's capable of 2.9 but i really don't want to go the watercooling route again. Just wondering if anyone has experience of these coolers and what kind of improvements im likely to see over the freezer.

freezers are pretty good tbh, there's probably only 4-5c in it. Your temps do seem a 'lil high, maybe a reseating is in order?

If you can though, go for the scythe ninja instead. It edges out infront of the typhoon by a few degrees. keeps my 148 @ 3ghz <50c in this heat, anyway.

They are better afaik, you should see a few C difference.

If I were to suggest a cooler now, I would say get a Scythe Mine. These are ligher than the Scythe Ninja coolers and simpler to install, as well as giving better cooling according to reviews.

out of the two (mine/ninja) i'd go with whatever's cheaper. weight isnt a problem with the ninja, i can tell you that. And you also have noise to think about. not that a 1500rpm 100mm will be 'loud', but it'll be louder than a 1200rpm 120mm fan, and also harder to find a replacement for if you wish to.

also, reviews are a strange thing. the only half decent in-depth review i can find (vr-zone) puts the ninja infront of the mine using the same fan (only 1c, mind)

Im kind of considering a 3d galaxy water cooler to go with my aurora case as well. Had a hydrocool water cooler a while back and it performed well but i always had this nagging feling if i was leaving it on overnight to download something. Might get one of these scythes to se how they are first then go for the water cooling if theyre not enough.
