is this the best heatsink/fan combo that will keep temps as low as say an xp 120 and a dual core cpu with ihs removed ? and will there be no mounting issues as it is? i dont want to be modding anything. just want to take ihs off and add heatsink to enjoy low temps & noise. thanks

eh wait it says mount may need modification, what mount

The Scythe uses a socket retention mount and then clips onto that. This is set up with an IHS in mind, so if you use it on one without, it doesn't apply good pressure to the core. I guess you good bend the clips so that they apply more force but I haven't attempted this yet.

There should be no problem with the Typhoon as long as you can remove the existing cooler retention mechanism so you're left with just the socket. The cooler core does not hit the raised side of the socket which is the main problem running without the IHS. It's a very good cooler, my Opti (2.8Ghz 1.475v) is 27c idle (web browsing) and I've never seen it hit over 40c under load.
