Bigger monitor = same FOV or bigger FOV?

Let's say you updated from a 16:10 19" monitor (eg: 1680x1050) to a 16:10 24" monitor (eg: 1920x1200), and play the same games on them.

Am I right in saying with general first person shooter or driving games, the FOV would be identical? ie: You'd see absolutely the same on both monitors, just that the latter is using more pixels to display it?

The only way the FOV would change is if you bought a wider monitor. eg: a 16:9 (1920x1080).

FOV will be SLIGHTLY different because of the different dimensions of the monitors (there is potential to see a tree off the side of the track in a racing game that wouldnt be seen by a smaller /narrower monitor) - but it will be miniscule

The only way (I can think of ) to increase the FOV properly is to use multiple monitors in eyefiniity etc

But if the monitors were both 16:10, then surely the FOV, and what's seen, would be identical?

That is correct. The majority of game titles are Hor+ with the default FOV tied to the aspect ratio - not influenced by screen size or resolution. That is why some people are quite vocal about 16:9 being 'better for games' and why 21:9 can make even more of a difference to FOV. :)

This all springs from - Although I'd prefer say a 16:10 1920x1200 monitor, because I mainly play games I'm coming around to getting a 16:9 1920x1080 monitor purely for this FOV reason.

Some strategy games deliberately limit this e.g. Starcraft maxes vision at 1080p, more pixels are limited to the same amount of visible game space, different aspect rations only see a segment of the 16:9 space. I guess if you can see the units slightly better then it may help a bit anyway, but you can't get more on a screen :)
