Biggest Insect in world eats carrots like a rabbit

Wow.... I was expecting something awful. It's only a giant Weta... ive held one of those, they're really placid.

"She would have finished the carrot very quickly, but this is an extremely endangered species and we didn't want to risk indigestion".

I just puked at the sight of 'her' never mind her getting indigestion!

Oddly, I find them less unsettling than smaller insects. They're big enough to be pets.

How big could an insect get on Earth today? I vaguely recall it being something to do with air pressure and oxygen content for spiders (I idly wondered one day if D&D-style giant spiders were even possible :) ) - is it the same for insects?
