So, currently on a pair of 4K's @ 120hz on thunderbolt 4 to laptop.
Having a serious think about an AMD 9955HX3D/5090 equipped laptop. I do obviously at that point hit a bandwidth wall on the 2x 4K's. (20Gb/sec vs 40Gb on TB4)

So... thinking on a bit, might be worth considering a change of screens, see how close I can get.
What's the widest+highest res screen I can run from a single USB-C?

If anyone has some spectacular insight as to how to do 2x 4k, high hz over USB-C, that might be welcome too.

I've asked semi similar questions before, apologies for any "oh, this again" eye rolls that might be due.

Does the USB-C output definitely have Displayport Alt mode? otherwise you won't get video out, usually USB-C with video out (on these kind of devices) has USB4/TB4 support.

  • USB-C Port Configuration: The laptop generally comes with two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C ports, which are designed to support data transfer and video output (DP Alt Mode).
Got that in the blurb so aye. Is it "has alt mode so bandwidth doesn't matter" then?
Pretty sure with my current setup, one is essentially TB4, one is alt mode DP, both just happen to wire tidily through a TB4 hub which passes alt mode along... in which case, I'd guess it's anything on a single DP too?
