Budget £200

Hello I bought a Bike last Year and it was the worst bike so far I have ever ridden. First couple weeks it was fine and now it just feels old.

Here the Bike, I own.
http://www.sportsdirect.com/silver-fox-fx-one-26-inch-mountain-bike-mens-932168

Can anyone here who hopefully understand bikes better give me a recommendation?
I been looking on Halfords and seen this - Apollo Evade Mens Mountain Bike
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._productId_992102_langId_-1_categoryId_165499

But a quick Google people recommend to stay away from Halfords for Bikes?

Thanks, really need help choosing has I dont want to make the same mistake again and buy Junk.

:D
Edit
Mods sorry if this wrong place, didn't see where to create this thread.

Edit2
Bought the Carrera Subway Hybrid Bike from Halfords.

Thanks guys

So many options, all depends on how much you want to spend, Evans bike shops are pretty good, Decathlon do some nice bikes for commuting as well and are nicely priced. My advice is try and get a ride on one before hand take it out for a pedal (EVANS let you do this) i made the mistake of buying a bike from a review (DAWES WATOGA) many years ago and i couldn't get on with it the geometry was all wrong for me.

Thanks can take a Look.
Apollo are pretty poor.

Do you need a mountain bike?

Can you stretch the purse a little? This is an amazing budget bike.

I can up my Budge but not to much, has this is only for Work. I dont ride on the roads, so I thought a Mountain bike would be the better choice?

I was going to say look at Specialized,I have a Specialized Hardrock 2011 which is over 2 years old and is still working and looking great...i go to and from work on it everyday in all sorts of weather.

But the cheapest one is £330 so overbudget.

Evans Cycles has a "Mongoose Switchback Sport 2013" for £209,Should have been £279.

Not sure i can link so you will have to have a look mate.

What do you ride on?

A road bike would be much better if your road riding, rather than a poor suspension setup which lets be honest unless your spending £500+ it's going to be.

If you need a mountain bike a second hand specialised hardrock or similar is where I'd be looking.

I do like disk breaks, probably the only good thing about the bike I using now.

Yeah, this where I went wrong I have no real understanding on bikes you see disk breaks and suspension and think this is great. :D
This time I dont want to spend on something thats going to be a waste.
One more thing, I dont ride on Roads, mostly all path.

Dirt path or road path? If its a path designed for bikes, then a road bike would be best really.

Realisticly if its commuting to work, I'd avoid suspension all together as it's really not needed unless your hurling your way down a hill.

At this price too, don't be worried if there V-brakes, mechanical disc brakes are crap.

Id stay away from disk brakes on a cheap/budget bike theyre crap...my old bike (Muddyfox) was a cheap bike and had disk brakes..they were uesless..they hardly worked in the rain and the squeal they made.

I choose to have pads on my Specialized rather than Disk brakes and they have been great, and easier/cheaper to replace too.

I guess when buying a Bike, you do really get what you pay for.

Get it from Evans and get a hybrid for you commute. I went from a cheapie mountain with suspension like you sport direct to a 250 hybrid from Evans and it was night and day. Suspensions is not really needed for road riding but I preferred the seating position of a hybrid. Evan currently have a dawes hybrid at 199 that would be great for your needs.

Why do you keep saying Budge?

I'm also surprised you think £200 will get you anything other than tosh. Even second hand and you'll struggle.

If you get a cheap bike then it'll be rubbish and you won't enjoy or use it consistently so it'll be a complete waste. If you actually want to commute every day then spend a bit more and it'll still only work out at ~£1 each way buy will be MUCH more enjoyable, quicker, comfortable and longer lasting.

I commute Mon to Fri on a Forme road bike that has cost me nearly £1000 but I've just switched over to my winter bike which is this - http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._productId_810731_langId_-1_categoryId_165534
I can thoroughly recommend it and it is fast, not as fast as my road bike but good enough that a a bloke on a road bike was amazed I had kept up with him on Friday.
I told him he wouldn't have stood a chance if I was on my road bike.
There is a side of me that thinks I wasted a lot of money on my road bike because the Carrera is excellent for the price.

See if you're work do the bike to work scheme, mine does and you get £500 of them and you pay it back at £18 a month

I'm considering doing this at the new job I start on Monday (they already told me they do offer that). I have an Apollo Outrider right now but not happy with it any more, was a present though so had to be under £150 budget. I'd like to go to Decathlon but the nearest one is 36 miles away and I can't drive :(.

Budge meaning not willing to spend more :( I now willing to spend £300. Like I said I have no idea what sort of bike am looking for the first crap thing that I using now, just looked good to me.
Since making the thread I have now learned I most pay the extra to get better so £300 will be my max Budge surely this will be better than what I using now?

That looks very good, this my number one choice so far.
Thanks
