Hi

I am planing on getting a Blackbird for my 15 mile commute along the motorway to work and back.

Being 23 and working in a good professional job, would it be beneficial to buy a POC and insure it for a year to get 1 NCB then in a year when I plan to buy something, it will make insurance better?

Do insurance companies care about what the NCB was accrued on? Also what would be the cheapest way to get 1 NCB?

Thanks! :)

I know my insurance asked if I'd ridden anything over 600cc in the past year, suppose it shows your recent experience with a bit more power.

I was thinking more, buy the cheapest bike possible and insure but not really ride it. Then buy BB and benefit from 1 years NCB?

I wanted to know, from other people's experience, whether insurers ask what the NCB was accrued on.

You can't do it on price comparison websites.

Have you got a bike now? If not, why not get something like a Fazer 600 for a year, ride that, gain experience - then get your blackbird?

I toyed with the idea of getting a blackbird as a first bike a few years back but on taking one for a test ride and seeing how wide and heavy they are I am so glad i did not. I would go for something lighter until you get some more experiance.

I commute 16 miles each way on my CBR600RR, thinking a Blackbird is a bit overkill for such a short journey, plus they are massively heavy, get an ER6f if you want MPG and comfort.

Its mostly motorway driving so thought a Blackbird style bike would be better as it has more fairing than a CBR600?

Also dislike the look of the ER6f which is the problem :(

Looks nice in the blue colour scheme! What sort of mpg/performance do you get out of it?

Do you have to ride it like a sport bike? i.e. get into the higher revs to get more torque or is it grunty down low?

I've been tracking my mpg on Fuelly and I'm getting over 50mpg out of it. http://www.fuelly.com/driver/morbius/gsx650f

It looks like a sports bike but it's actually a Bandit in disguise, which is more commuter-oriented. It's very smooth and performs nicely throughout the rev range. Even though the engine isn't as big as the Blackbird's, it can still easily do the wrong side of 100.

Wow, what caused the massive jump in efficiency?

What sort of ride do you do? I'm going to be doing 80% motorway.

It's not a massive jump, only 2-3 mpg. I did install a double bubble screen, but I'm waiting to see a more long-term trend before calling it.

My ride is about 35% dual carriageway, with about 90% of the ride being on A roads.

Lol fail at looking at the scale :D

Have you got any more pics of your bike with the double bubble?

I think it is much more sporty than the erf6 which I like and looks better for motorway riding than a sportsbike.

I've got some pics I took on my phone during the screen install, so they're not great. Top left is before, bottom right is after and the other two are in-progress. :)
