Well i did a DAS course starting last Tuesday, did my MOD1 on Friday and MOD2 today in total only picked up 2 minors. Yay me. So now its time to go bike shopping and this is were im confused, the bike will be for pleasure only, the bikes used at the school were cbf600 which were fine only thing they were a bit small and after an hour my knees began to ache, i fancy a VFR but would love a BMW GS1200A, am i being a dumb ass getting a big bike so soon, it needs to be able to tour 2 up as well as give me all the fun i want, im not a sports bike fan (i love them) just as they are uncomfy for me and wreck my wrists after 30mins. So what else should i be looking at, top budget is about £6000.

Oh and a cruiser isnt out the question i love the Suzuki intruder.

Thanks.

Larger/Faster bikes are perfectly good as a first bike if you're sensible enough to behave on them. Doesn't take much to put you on your arse or send you sliding down the road.

I passed my DAS in June and have a ZX6R for a bit of weekend fun. Have had a few heart in mouth moments, mostly when riding/cornering at speed.

If you have good road awareness and driving experience I wouldn't be put off my big bikes but just remember they're incredibly powerful and unforgiving.

i would'nt get a BMW GS1200A as your first big bike tbh, it's not the speed & power ide be worried about, it's the sheer top heavy physical bulk of the beemer that poses the greater threat to a new rider, they are hefty brutes, especially at low speed.

for a decent, friendly, mile muncher ide probably go for a GSF1250, the ABS would be a godsend on your first big bike, and, should the worst come to the worst ( & it will because it does to pretty much all of us at some time or other ), parts are cheap for the GSF1250.

Yea i keep seeing the GSF1250GT which i like and good value for money.

Im no speed freak, just want a nice bike to go touring on which not only looks good but does the job as well.
