Bike rack for saloon car

Roof rack? Something by Thule.
Tow bar? Something by Thule - these are excellent.
On the back, on the bodywork? Saris Bones, though it is expensive.

Tow bar - also look at Atera.

Roofbox.co.uk have a big selection of all types of carrier. Have a look in their returns section - can save a bit of cash.

I've got this problem too. Went to Halfords who sell a lot of bike racks that will fit saloon/hatchback cars. But its done by make model of car. I drive an insignia hatch and wanted a rack for 3 bikes. No can do! Roof system has mounts for 2 bikes.

I'm driving. BMW e46 saloon

Not sure I'm happy with a roof system tbh ... Don't like the idea of bike on top:o

I was dubious too, but it really is excellent - very secure and much better than the ones you strap to the back. I did it with my old Golf GTi and my current Passat estate.

On most cars you can fit four up there, if you alternate front to back with the bikes.

saris make excellent racks.

sure they're expensive, but they're secure and hold bikes very well. I wouldn't want to cheap out on hanging my bike off the back of my car which travels up to 70mph.

Just watch out for car park heigh barriers ;) Whilst they make it easy to get the bikes off the roof, it's an expensive shortcut.

There was an image a while ago in the main road bike thread of someone who'd driven into their garage with a bike on the roof and destroyed it. It was a Look or Time bike, so not out of the realms of possibility that it was worth more than the car it was stuck on top of...
