I haven't got a chain or disc lock at the mo and looking at buying one.

Do they really lower insurance premiums?

I'm looking at getting an Oxford Monster Disc Lock and a chain for when it's possible to chain the bike to something.

Or I'm feeling flush then perhaps the ABUS Granit Detecto & Chain

Would prefer an alarm as that's probably the greatest deterrent, so if anybody by any chance has any of the above or any other recommendations for an alarmed disc lock/chain then I'd be grateful for any replies :)

Took my chain lock off my policy because I stopped carting around with me (still use it at home).

Total extra premium to pay: 0.

Alarmed disc lock that'll fit under your seat = win :)

No faffing around getting a full alarm fitted, and no issues with such an alarm causing problems later down the line. But still lots of noise generated if someone tries to move your bike :)

I use security but don't list it on my insurance as they'll just use it as an excuse to try and get out of paying if they think you didn't use it.

i use a chain if im leaving my bike for a longish time, short times away from it i dont chain it up,its not mentioned on my insurance though, most modern bikes have built in imobilizer's which helps with insurance

personally i prefer chaining it to something solid, bikes can easily be bundled into the back of a transit and who pays attention to alarms nowadays?

I got two of THESE chain /padlock combos, one at work and one at home.
Luckily they just about go through the swingarm so they can't just take the wheels off.
I never again want to go through the feeling I did when I had a car stolen years ago even if it did only cost a few hundred quid.

(I didn't buy them from there, but it looks like it's the current cheapest place to get them...)
