Hi Guys

I need a bike stand to work on my mountain bike, can anyone give a recommendation? Requirements are:

- £30 to £170 budget.

- Good sturdy design, i.e. doesn't wobble.

- Holds the bike well and I can turn the pedals to work on the gears.

- Can have foot stands but don't want them really large as want to use it in my kitchen, with about 1.5m of floor space. (EDIT - don't worry about this requirement too much, I can use it in my lounge instead, so large foot stands are now ok).

- Anything that can hold tools on the stand, like a tray, would be good.

- Something that is of decent quality and will last well.

Thanks

I don't think you're going to be able to get much done in a room that size. You might be able to get a bike on the stand, but there'd be no room left for, well, you.

OK, don't worry about this size requirement, I can use it in a larger room instead, so size is not an issue now. Thanks.

Someone posted a picture of their bike in the Road Cycling thread and they had a £30 black & red jobby found on the rainforest.

Got my eye on the 'Feedback Sports Pro Ultralight Workstand', probably unnecessarily expensive and overkill but it's nice to treat yourself ;) I'm a way off buying yet so got some time to read reviews and will come back to this thread.

I've got one of these from Merlin.

Purchased in August 2005 and still doing the job.

Looks very similar (even down to colour/design/features!) of the PX 'Jobsworth' stand I have. Same price, but PX occasionally have it on sale, got mine for £30 last autumn and it was one of my better purchases/investments. Has no tray but hasn't been a big issue for me. Adjustable height is a must (don't get that with a wall mount) as well as a rotating top arm (to flip the bike). A quick to release clap is great too - some don't have them.

Looks the same - Planet-X are doing it for £49.99 between 6 and 7pm tonight, so an extra tenner off.

That would be me :)

It's the Puregadgets(c) Heavy Duty Bike stand, bargain at £30. Can't really see it in my photos but it does have a little tray to hold tools and bits on the main stem.

I use one of the "£30 bay jobbies" at work and can't think why I would pay any more for a stand.

because park tools come with a lifetime warranty? and every single component is available as a replacement part?

i was originally going to get one of the £30 ebay jobbies but i cant imagine it would be that sturdy when hammering out headset cups etc. plus i always used park stands back in the day working in bike shops, and nothing really compares to the solidness after that.

Yeah, if you want a stand for frequently bashing out headset cups then yeah, you would probably want to opt for something more sturdy.

But for £30, for general maintenance, hey, I even built my bike using one, its all you really need.

Replacement parts are available from eBay sellers if you buy yours from there.

But hey, its £30. :)
