Bike storage help

Did you specify it would be made of wood? Almost all insurance companies will not class that as a garage.

I have one of these for my bikes. Was easy enough to put together with two people.

I preferred going for a metal one over wood. Is more expensive though.

Had it out the back for a few years and not had any problems with it so far.

Edit: Just noticed this is for a motor bike not a bicycle so may not be appropriate. Must remember to pay attention to the sub forum next time.

Fair enough, but like I said most won't so if you change companies double check as I can't class my bike as garaged with a lot of them even though I've got a solid old wooden outbuilding more than a shed because it's main construction is wood.

I can't see anything wrong with it just for keeping the bike out of the elements though, much better than having to deal with a cover.

I'm also looking to pick up one of the asgard metal motorbike garages, the plus size one as I'll be fitting 2 bikes in there plus a tool chest, paddock stands etc.

I haven't rung round insurers yet but will be checking that it's classed as a garage before pulling the trigger.

Every insurer I spoke to were fine with all sheds being a garage.

I've got a metal shed, just a basic billyoh from garden buildings direct. Think was about £400 for an 8x6 with a base. Prefer it over wood as no upkeep. Never had a problem with condensation either.

I make a point of telling them it is bricked shaves a few quid off and no windows shaves some more rinse and repeat play the game with insurance companies and people will be surprised how much they knock off.

One year I was moaning so much in the end they said "what do you want to pay" :p

But all ways tell the truth or can come back and bite you in the ****.

The folk on the phone will say anything if they don't know the answer. I had a load of trouble with an Akra exhaust that I was confidently told was not classed as aftermarket, as it came fitted to the bike from new at the manufacturer. Guess what happened when I tried to make a claim...

Try and get it in writing to save yourself a load of hassle down the road. Otherwise Id look at something more purpose built (like the asgard above). Looks like you would have a hell of a time getting it in that wooden one anyway??

My bike is chained to a 50cm thick concrete post via an Almax IV in a secure underground resident only car park yet my insurance company class it the same as being left on the street (and my premium reflects that)

I phoned several up and all were the same. Doesn't count as "being garaged"

Mine is in a private underground car park, chained to a post using an Almax III, disk lock, alarm and my insurance is 10% cheaper if I say that is parked on the street without anything.
