Hi,

I want to strip down and rebuild my Scott Sub 20 as it's never been serviced since I bought it 2nd hand 3 years ago  It's also got a regular click noise which I believe is coming from the bottom bracket. I'm new to this and want to get to know my bike and have a few questions...

Will the following kit have all I need to strip it down and rebuild?

Do I need to worry about torque when tightening things back up during the rebuild?

Will a single brand of grease be ok for all the components that need greasing?

Thanks :)

Any other advice appreciated too.

If you don't mind waiting for delivery, a Planet X Jobsworth kit is much cheaper:

I've never owned a torque wrench and have done loads of my own bikes. I use Finish Line Teflon grease for bottom bracket, peddle threads and the like. Any carbon fibre bits? I'll use a carbon grease/prep on that to try to avoid sticking (Google stuck seat posts!)

I'd probably get a new BB, chain and cassette to put on if it's seen a few years MTB use.

If it's just steel or aluminium then you can probably manage just doing things up as tight as you can manage with regular tools, assuming you're not some absolute animal. Carbon you have to be more careful with.

planet x kit is fine - i've never bothered with torque wrench for 2 carbon bikes and one aluminum. As above - just do them up tight but not mental tight,.

Excellent. Thanks guys :)

Will definitely order the Planet X Jobsworth. Much cheaper indeed. Been watching some maintenance vids from Global Cycling Network and Bike Radar. Doesn't seem so daunting anymore. :)
