Bike Tinkerers Bargain

I remember many years ago a snap on van used to come to a garage we knew and we asked "What ya Got for a fiver Mate" he looked at us and reached in his top pocket and said " I have pen " :D

Tools are not something to buy cheap! Buy the best quality you can and they will literally last a lifetime. My dad has stuff from the 60's which still serve him well.

I love buying new, quality tools :)

Halfords Pro range dont laugh, (lifetime guarantee on everything) Perfect for the part time mechanic and odd jobs its the only stuff i buy now.

Always deal on there socket sets on the various deal sites.

Don't think many will laugh at you for getting Halfords Pro stuff! It's fantastic and as you say the sets are constantly on sale half price etc. I've been tempted a few times by their set, but I currently have everything I need for my bike so have resisted so far. The big set that's currently £300 was pretty cheap over christmas iirc. Only problem is there are a load of socket sizes you would likely never use, especially on a modern bike. Still a perfect starting place if you don't have any/many tools though.

No, you won't use them on a modern bike... but you will be surprised how often you will use them!
Neighbour's car, the wife's bike, your cousin's new furniture... Suddenly, once people learn you have a decent and comprehensive toolset, you will find friends you never knew you had!!

Also impressed that Halfrauds do actually honour this lifetime guarantee and don't seem too fussed over how you broke something, as they typically do a straight swap.

Look like the sort of ratchet that ends up with a blob of weld on it holding it all together

Yep, and with about 8 teeth and a load of slop so it's useless in confined spaces. Might suffice for very occasional use on fasteners that aren't difficult to remove, but not if you enjoy working on bikes and cars regularly.
