Recently done the cbt am old enough to do the das but its expensive at least 600 quid and haven't had much experience on two wheels so might turn out to be even more expensive.

Is it worth buying a cheapish 2nd hand 125 for a few months just to get some experience on it and hopefully mean less pre mod1,mod2 training costs? If i did that and then passed mod1,mod2 and sold the 125 would this cost less in the long term than going for costly das training ?

What did you do after your cbt,and how did it work out for you ?

Did my CBT last saturday. looked into a 125 but feel i will get bored of that quite fast, also you can get a nice 600cc around a similar price of most 125. so for me it's training this sunday and next sunday. Monday 19th morning is my mod 1 test, then the mod 2 in the afternoon.

Hopefully should go smoothly, but i am a bit nervous of the mod 2 test.

After my CBT I bought a CBR125 and rode that for 6 months or so to get some biking experience. After that I did my full test which was a breeze and I sold the CBR for £100 more than I paid for it, win win.

Good Luck Metamorph!

Did CBT a couple of weeks back, was supposed to do Mod 1 on Tuesday but it was cancelled due to high winds and so am doing it on Tuesday coming! If pass will book straight in for Mod 2 or if not Mod 1 again! Hopefully will pass!!

Good luck with your choice :)

I am booking my CBT on monday and my theory then after that I will do DAS over 5 days.

Its a bit more costly doing the CBT separate from the DAS with the school I will be using but I have no road experience what so ever. Will also be going to price up my gear tomorrow.

I think I have worked out the costings so far....

CBT + Theroy £140
Kit (no locks) £600
DAS (5 or 6 day) £650
Bike (when I pass) £1500 - £2000
Locks etc + insurance £450

I have £1500 now ready for CBT, Theory and kit, the by April I will have another £1500 - £2000.

I know it can be done far cheaper than the way I am going to do it but it will be my only personnel mode of transport.

Hope you can work out your costings and get riding soon! :D

Ps Is it wrong that I get a chubby over the Kawasaki ZZR 600's :D

You've got a couple of options:
1. Do DAS straight and risk the fail.
2. Buy CG125, get experience then do DAS or restricted license (good coz you can use you CG125 to take the test on so u don't need DAS training).
3. Hire a CG125 (usually bout 120 for a week in london) and get some miles down (if you rag the fuel will probs be 40 max for the week), aim to get about 400 quality miles down (eg at 30mph or less) and then do DAS 3 or 4 day course...

I would personally reccomend option 2 restricted license (pros: cheap, fail safe cons: restricted license) or option 3 which will work out same price as going straight to DAS, but I reckon your chances of passing are significantly better.

To be honest I was going to go down the DAS route and kind of glad I didn't, CBT then bought a 125 going to ride it for a few months as you really learn when you are out in the "real" world

But everyone is different, but my confidence on the bike has come on leaps and bounds. I find watching a load of how to videos has helped and every trip to work is a practice session
