Hi,

So I've got a Billion 7800N. Wired connections seem to be fine.
However my wireless connection run really slowly.
Copying files from my NAS over WiFi I get speeds of around 1.2MB/s. Using Wired the same file will get closer to 40MB/s.

My Laptop has a Wireless N receiver (and I've tried a Wireless N N300 device too) and connects at 56Mbps. I thought that it should connect at 150Mbps or 300Mbps?

What's the cause of my slow speeds? I'm assuming it's the 7800N?

What setting should I be using on the Billion and do I need to do anything on the wireless device to get the 150/300Mbps connection speeds as well as faster transfer speeds?

Thanks.

Download inssider or wifi analyzer and check what channels you're using. Also check you're actually running 'N' and connecting to it. Does the router support 5ghz?

No, the router doesn't support 5GHz as far as I can tell.

Is there anything else connected to the router. If one thing connects with wireless g all devises drop to that speed.

Yeah, mobile phones (e.g. Samsung Galaxy S4) and tablets (e.g. Nexus 10) connect to it and a printer.
If I set the router to just be n (instead of g+n) then the laptop can't even connect.

So that's likely why you get rubbish speeds. The Router is being 'forced' into G only use by your laptop. Either go cabled, try home plugs or get a USB N capable adaptor for your laptop. It sounds like the wireless card is using G only.

My laptop is Wireless N and I've tried a USB Wireless N adaptor. Neither work if I set the router to be 'n' only.

But even 56Mbps should give me faster speeds than 1.2MB/s. 56Mb = 7MB. I get that it's unrealistic to expect 7MBs, but I'd expect more than 1.2MB/s.

So there are 2 issues it seems. Why 'n' isn't working and I'm only connecting at 56Mbps and why I'm not even getting close to that.

Sorry for bumping the thread but need help.

Hi, just been giving a 7800n to use on Sky Fibre tried setting it up but need help please-
1-Wired up correctlly>Master socket RJ11 to DSLPort>Modem>RJ45 Ewan to Ewan Port>Router.
2-In router bios[FM:ukbillion7800nv6_1.06h.dt2.afw latest] Main interface port>EWAN.
In Wan interface if l select Protocols there is no MAC Encapsulated Routing (RFC 1483 MER) either selecting Ewan or Adsl using latest firmware[FM:ukbillion7800nv6_1.06h.dt2.afw]

I know my Sky Password is correct as it worked with other 3rd party routers when l was on Sky Adsl.

Thanks.

UPDate

Its working now, what a difference old Sky Black Hub 39998 Dload/6492UPload > 7800n 39970 Dload/6742UPload.:D

Hopefully the l might get a bit more UPload speed just goes to show how crap the Sky Black Hub is.
