Billion 7800N

Stats after half an hour:

How do the stats look?

Fine... but as you say "it's what happens after dusk that matters" and my guess is that with that noise margin, you will be lucky to hold onto the connection! But you never know. Fingers crossed.

PS. I phoned my ISP last night and asked them to switch on Interleaving. I think that should drastically reduce my serious errors. Then all I have to do, is find another modem/router that's not so suseptible to noise interference / noise from my Plasma TV. But what? The Billion looked the best......

I doubt the connection will hold but there is no harm in trying.

By the way, thank you for all your help so far.

Here is the SNR plot for the last few hours:

I have just had one of the "blips" in the SNR margin that seem to be happening on my line recently. Hopefully the SNR will go back up soon. Apart from that, the SNR has hardly dropped at all.

Apart from the drop (which was caused by some sort of interference between the exchange and me) which brought the SNR down to 2dB, the SNR has actually dropped about 1.1dB which is 2dB more than yesterday!

I was starting to get a bit of lag and the errors were building up so I have restarted the router. Strangely, I am at a lower SNR and at a higher sync but the lag is much better.

I said this was a "dark art" ;)

Take my case.... Interleaving now back on and error rate right down. Sync slightly higher, but now appears to be no drop discernible in SNRM when the Plasma TV is on! WTF... starting to wonder if I sent the Billion back prematurely! life

The IP profile has also increased to 6.5Mb but Plusnet have their own profile so I'll have to wait for it to match that. The Plusnet speed is currently set at 5.5Mb so that is the maximum speed I can get at the moment.

I have been doing some more tweaking today just to get the best compromise between speed and stability. I now have got the ping low with a small amount of jitter and the speed seems to be pretty good. Here are the stats, I'll be intersted to here what you think:

Thanks for responding dmisims. I don't seem to be having any problems with the low SNR. Here is a ping test for example:

I'll let you know if anything changes.

I have been running 1.06f firmware since Friday as it claimed "Fix issue whereby SNMP doesn't show correct statistics" and behold.... the FEC errors now appear to be outputted correctly. Not convinced CRC errors are correct but I've not had time to look into it properly.

I still have the problem where I can only access the SNMP daemon on the LAN port if "WAN Access" is allowed and I have found another fault in the the Telnet daemon doesn't seem to like the fact that my PC is not on the the same subnet as it's LAN interface - odd at the HTTP daemon doesn't care.

Another ticket to Billion I think.
