Hello,

I have recently started having a problem with my mouse (just happened right then) where it seems to disconnect then reconnect making the bing bong windows found new hardware sound. It first happened when i was gaming, and thats when it happens the most. It tends to happen when the computer is under load. I have tried plugging it into another USB port but it doesn't make a difference. So basically the mouse just cuts out then about a second later kicks back into life , which is a right pain! I'm completely mythed by it anyone have an idea as to what could be causing this?

its a MX510, i'll post the rest of my spec if needed.

thanks in advance

It sounds like the mouse wire is damaged or has an intermittent break in one of the conductors.
I've had something similar happen with an old PS2 mouse, and that was a fun problem - USB just goes "bing bong, bing bong", PS2 locks the machine (cue weeks of reinstalls and swapping out every other bit of hardware).

Try fiddling with the a bit and seeing what happens, or holding the bit as it comes out of the mouse to the mouse (if it's an intermittent break it's likely to be at that bit as that is where the worst strain usually is).

that was the first thing i tried, i wiggled the wire loads in all places and i can't cause the problem. Also i tried the mouse on another machine and everything was fine, leading me to believe its something a little more sinister

I had this problem a while back, i thought it was a PSU problem and not having enough power to power all of the USB's in use, swapped it for a bigger PSU and still had the same problem

Switched the mouse to its PS2 adapter and never had a problem since :)

MX518 btw, if thats makes any difference :p

PS2 has a much lower sample rate than USB, so it is less precise. USB can sometimes have problems in terms of odd glitches, but generally speaking you should always use USB if it is available.

Check in device manager to see if the usb ports are set to keep awake etc... and not power down at any time.

ok, checked the device manager and unticked the box saying "Allow windows to disable this device to save power" so fingers crossed that was the cause. Going out now so can't test, but i will post back if that was the solution.

Thanks for the help.

godammit that hasn't solved the bing bong!! This time, i started playing a bit of tf2 and the mouse just frooze but without the bing bong, then eventually after it happened a couple of times it finally bing bonged me :(

never heard of it ^^

EDIT: tried a Ps2 converter and still getting the same :|
